Jeeesch, if they were poisonous and sting as well what a nightmare that would be.

Time to break out the fishing pole and head down to the river. All the bait you'll ever need. ;)

Well in that case I guess the saying "The sooner you leave the better" is true.

Lots of crickets in OK!

No, I haven't been noticing any big concentrations of crickets here.  Like what has happened with a lot of the rains this year, Stillwater is being bypassed by the crickets, too.  A greater menace is that there are more than usual copperhead and rattle snakes out this year with some people getting bit by them.  I glad I haven't seen any.  http://www.koco.com/news/oklahomanews/okc/reported-number-of-snakebites-increasing-in-oklahoma/-/11777584/21373846/-/xxyp5uz/-/index.html

Yes.  It was like this last year also.  Just started really in the last week.  At my place of employment, We see hundreds of them a day congregating on the south walls in the morning, especially.

Yep, bluegills and redbellies oughta be biting! ;)

Btw, the "lovebug" invasion is underway in south Alabama.  All you northerners (folks north of Montgomery<g>) going to the beach be aware that your cars will be covered with lovebug gut-glue and the windshield washing water at the gas stations will smell rotten...

Those used to be a big problem in our kitchen/dining area because our maid leaves the doors open a lot. Since I've added a bug zapper they are pretty rare. The thing is popping and zapping all the time. Just be sure not to place it anywhere near where food is set out or prepared. Works great for flies but doesn't do much for mosquitoes.

I had that same problem but then some nice old lady from work brought me a bar of soap....

Have any of you tried a shiny new penny in a ziplock bag filled with water and hung from a porch ceiling?  Something about light reflection off the penny is supposed to screw up the compound eyes of the flies and make them "stay away".  I've seen this done at a few cafes, curb markets, etc., and will honestly say I didn't see a fly problem at those places (don't I know if there was a problem before the penny-in-the-bag method was used or not).  The folks swore by them when I inquired...it has been a while since I inquired so if I remember and when I go back by those places I'll see how they worked out over a long period of time.  I just did a quick search on it and here is a link to a forum conversation about it... http://idigmygarden.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31627

Every April we have swarms of Miller Moths that migrate west to the mountains in CO. Some years are worse than others.

I think the photos shown in the Daily Mail article in the first post aren't really indicative of the entire state.  While we have quite a few here in Tulsa, it hasn't been on the order of what we saw last year, after a summer with very little rain and 100 degree temperatures on 50 days of the summer.  The climate this summer is much milder with a lot more rain.  But not for everyone in the state.  They didn't note exactly where (except for one that said Oklahoma City) the photos were taken, but where I'm at, I am seeing them.

Just not that bad.

They make it sound like the entire state has been devoured by field crickets.  It's all overblown.  But it's the media, so what do you expect.
