Need Regional Radar Link
« on: January 19, 2019, 09:51:39 AM »
I have a monitor mounted on my wall that displays my weather station along with a regional (Des Moines Iowa) animated radar view that refreshes on it's own. That source was intellicast but since their merge with wunderground, the link no longer works.  I found a similar view on wunderground that is animated but doesn't push updates. Also refreshing the link does not provide new data.

So I'm looking for a radar source that will push updates that I can drop into my page with a link.

What about your local NWS site?

They use Adobe Flash Player and the Raspberry Pi that drives my wall mounted monitor does play well with Flash.

This may be more than you want.  You can set it to your local radar and have it auto-update among many options.  No need for flash because this script uses HTML5.

The script is currently the first one on this page.

Yes that's pretty deep but thanks for the information. I'm not very good with web page development. However until Intellicast folded, it was easy to find their automated radar view, copy and paste the Link they provided and drop that into my display.

Agreed!  Here is the free-standing version that might be more to your liking.

Well your link might be a solution for me. I can see how it plays on my RPi running Chromium.
Here is the original radar display I was using. However this link is static and doesn't provide any push updating like it did from the intellicast web page prior to last Thursday.

https://s.w-x.co/staticmaps/wu/wxtype/county_loc/dsm/animate.png

In fact it seems all of the radar animations from wunderground are a day old! Going back to the Des Moines radar to pull a fresh animation and noticed the data is from yesterday afternoon! Clearing my cache didn't help.

Went to this page and picked a site. The timestamp on all the radars I picked was several hours to a day old!

https://www.wunderground.com/maps/radar/current/clt

Is this similar to issues regarding wunderground I hear grumbling about on the forums?

This is my take on WU's current sad state of affairs.

UPDATE: It's working now?!

I've had this link running on the wall display since yesterday with a stale display:

https://s.w-x.co/staticmaps/wu/wxtype/county_loc/dsm/animate.png

But sometime this afternoon it is now refreshing with a fairly current radar display. I guess the problem for almost the last 24 hours was with wunderground........image that!  I know wunderground is a free service, but at this point, I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee to have reliable up to date radar information.
