Rules for calculating Current Icon and Current Conditions
« on: October 16, 2011, 02:30:41 PM »
I am looking for info on rules for calculating Current Icon and Current Conditions?

I guess a lot of it depends on things like

  • Do you have Solar Radiation Sensors, and what % is happening now?
  • Do you use METAR data for clouds etc?
  • How the wind affects the temperature
  • If it is raining or has recently rained
  • Is it day or is it night or dawn or dusk

I guess from these types of questions a simple flow of options could be formulated.

I started to doing this on the weekend on my test site http://weather2.crowe.co.nz for current conditions.

You can get quite verbose quite easily which is better than Dry or stopped raining.

It's cool outside around 10°, the temperature has been reasonably similar over the last few hours. The sky is clear. It is very calm with no wind.

It's cold outside around 8°, the temperature has been slowly increasing over the last few hours. The sky is partly cloudy. There is a light breeze from the North .
