WS-1001 Fails to Display Outdoor Information
« on: September 22, 2017, 03:35:52 PM »
Outdoor temperature, etc stopped being displayed. Purchased and installed replacement batteries from Ambient. Have reset the array etc according to the troubleshooting instructions several times, including re-registering the outdoor transmitter, without success. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try bringing the array inside the house, right next to the console, then do a reset. A couple of times I had the same problem as you, and that was the ONLY way I could get the 2 units talking to each other again.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, precisely what you suggested is described in the manual, and that is what I had already tried several times. I'll try again.

Does this include removing the batteries and covering the solar array with a dark piece of paper for a few minutes?

After this, when you put the batteries in, does the LED at the bottom come on for a couples seconds then go out?

Yes to both, and the LED flashes every so often after going out.

Looks like your outdoor unit is working.
Which data are missing? Just the Temp and Hum?

Btw, is your unit still under warranty?

Missing data includes outdoor-temp and -humidity, daily rain, wind-direction and -speed, and solar radiation.

I don't recall the date purchased, but quite sure it is not under warranty.

has any new radio masts gone up close to you,i know this sounds a stupid question, but we had a new radio mast go up for mobile phones.
most people in the area had trouble locking cars and was also interfering with wireless home alarms, everyone complained and they changed the freq it was operating on.
just a thought
as it sounds like something is blocking/interfering with  the signal

Tell us a bit more about your setup.
Do your have an OIP or is it wireless? Do you have a console? Where do you look at your data?

Wireless, console, not OIP, and I look at my data on the console. I do have a wunderground site but almost never look at it.

In the original post I should have asked a question about re-registration of the outdoor transmitter. I went through the steps, more than once. However, there was no feedback upon confirming the re-registration. Should there be, and if so what would that be.

Also, thanks to all trying to help.

So, indoor temp and barometric pressure register ok on the console? Are all of the other readings just a bunch of dashes?

Correct, indoor temperature, humidity and barometric pressure are displayed; all other readings are dashes. However, even though I just changed the indoor transmitter batteries, a low indoor transmitter battery indicator is displayed.

Thanks again to all who offered suggestions.

After unsuccessfully retrying a few times more to connect, I emailed Ambient Weather Customer Care. Being Saturday, I expected to wait until Monday for a response. Four minutes later came the first response, and after essentially similar quick Q & A as here on the forum, the conclusion was that the sensor had failed and was beyond repair. I have ordered a replacement.

No. I run OS X, and I had given up trying to update. My final question to Ambient Service and Support was if a firmware update was necessary replacing a WS-1000 sensor with a WS-1001 or WS-1002 sensor. The answer was no. I decided on a WS-1001 replacement because I had already just bought replacement batteries.

Well probably the transmitter on the main board then. After 20 months, my wind direction kept losing calibration and humidity sensor was acting crazy. I bought a replacement array and in the meantime, I'm replacing the hall effect sensors for the wind vane and the humidity sensor. I hope to just swap one for the other when the next has any issues.
You could check the main board for insects and corrosion. The radio is is a raised square, about the size of your thumbnail. It has about six solder points on each side.
