I need to setup 2 personal weather stations ... one will be about 300 feet from the Gulf of Mexico so it will be battered by wind and salt spray .... any ideas on one that would survive that... it will be unmanned a lot of the time so it is an added plus if it will work and report to weather underground without a console / computer that has to be rebooted, I believe these are called IP based stations or if you know a super stable setup let me know.... the other will be on a farm not near the ocean so it can be a console if necessary, but still would like something that is super stable software wise with reporting.... also what is the best Mac software for dealing with these ?

Thanks,

JO

I've seen where organizations use http://www.weatherhawk.com/500-series in harsh environments. No moving parts and more interface options. Not sure about Mac s/w though.

As you have probably guessed, you can spend as much on a weather station as you want to.  Your budget will be the main factor in determining the heartiness of your station.  Good luck!  :)

Yea, what's your budget? That will be the final determining factor!

I passed your info/requirements to a friend who builds wx stations.  He can build what you need.  He said,
"would be an expensive system, not sure he would be willing to pay for something like this. I’ll check on some pricing and get back to you with the info."

What is your price range?

He also builds radio linked systems.  You may wish something that'll provide data if the phone/DSL/ethernet is down during a storm.  He is very experienced in using environmentally protected enclosures.

Here's a setup that looks close to your remote/unattended monitoring requirements. http://www.onsetcomp.com/products/weather_stations and this company mentions Mac compatibility plus coastal environment use. http://www.coastalenvironmental.com/portable-weather-station.shtml

NICE STUFF !

But in all honesty we can make suggestions but without knowing a working budget or if the OP could setup and maintain some of these systems it's all just links.
