Network weather station
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:34:48 AM »
I currently have a WMR968 weather station, in order to get my station online I have to hook it up to a PC that runs software that publishes my results to the web. I am looking for a weather station that just needs power and network connectivity. Is there anything out there like this ? I am envisioning something that I log into (for setup purposes) by hitting it's IP address on the network - much like a webcam or router. Thanks in advance for any input !

That's just the hub to connect to network, you still need a station, but dont need a pc once setup.

You can keep your wmr968, and use it with this.

However a cheap netbook and vws or wd, and you will have much more flexibility with what you can get onto the web.

Weatherhawk makes an I{ based station.  Or use a Linksys router a la http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/DATA/ad/wx200d/info.html   Works with your 968.

Be careful.  There are several versions of the WRT54G.  Not all of them support alternative builds.  Make sure you get the right thing or you'll be SOL.  The current version sold by linksys is 8.x, but the last supported version is 4.x

or you could look at the Davis IP data logger (more expensive option), that publishes to WU and the Davis web site, and can be picked up by software too

I am looking for the exact same thing.  Something I can monitor from outside the home via ports forwarded from my home network.  I do not currently have a weather station at all.  What would everyone suggest?  Thanks.  A.

The Weatherhawk I referred to earlier will do it - but the Weatherhawk IP module costs $500!  Lufft and Visala both make IP addressable weather stations, but they cost an arm and a leg.
