Title: Hello! Im new here and looking to put my davis weatherstation online
Post by: stanleyjohn on June 24, 2015, 01:05:34 PM
Hello all!! Been looking for a weather site that will best fit my needs and looks like this is it.I have been into weather a long time now and i have a active Davis Monitor ll complete weather station that i have been keeping data with for over 10 years now.I have recently finally found the time to try and put my station on the web.Working with a friend! I got a domain name and a web server site. After some painfull time of getting my davis monitor station with weatherlink 5.9.3 to work with the web page i have had some success. Having a web page is very new to me and i sure can use some help on getting a nice weather page set up.This is what i have so far! Must be missing something because whilw the graphs do update every 5 min! the text data on the left side isnt. www.stansweatherpage.com

When I tried the site out, it says the Java version being used is unsupported.

That's the scrolling text bar.

While WL will get you started it's website is very much stuck in the 80's. If this is for your own viewing it will do nicely. However, if you want to provide weather stats for your area you might want to look at Cumulus (donationware) if you want to keep it inexpensive. If you have a few bucks to burn then you might want to look at either VWS (Virtual Weather Station) or WD (Weather Display). One thing both have is a live weather page like mine www.twincitywx.com/wdl/wdlmain18.html (http://www.twincitywx.com/wdl/wdlmain18.html). If you have any questions always feel free to ask here. If you have questions that involve making a purchase....we will gladly help you spend your money....

Must be missing something because whilw the graphs do update every 5 min! the text data on the left side isnt. www.stansweatherpage.com

Those are tags that are uploaded when you say to upload a template.  (from the .htx file).  The graphs are separate things.

In the profile (where you told it to upload the graphs), also tell it to use whatever template you set up.

So what your saying is that the monitor htx that i have only deals with controlling the right side gifs and i need some other file for getting the info on the left side text.? or the other way around?

What version is your WeatherLink?  It can be updated - downloads are available from the Davis site.

It looks like you are doing everything correct. I would think 5.9.3 SHOULD work with the monitor 2.

But instead of the monitor.htx    Try the vantage .htx   just for the heck of it.

The only other thing I can think of is the variable

On the .htx Does the Temp say 79   or does it say <--currenttemp-->  ( what ever it should be)

XP or win 8 should not matter.

Yes, the names of things are important.  Try looking at:

http://www.stansweatherpage.com/Current_Monitor.htm
http://www.stansweatherpage.com/data.htm
http://www.stansweatherpage.com/Weather_Summary_Monitor.htm

Please believe that the following sentences are not intended to be insulting - they are intended to be helpful, and get your site to look like you want it to look.

Now, if you don't understand why stuff looks that way, read the AN26 again.

If you still don't understand why stuff looks that way, please find a high school or college student who know how web sites and HTML work.  They will be happy to help you.

You are a life saver dalecoy! True im just a rookie with this web stuff but im willing to learn and you have really shown me something here tonight! Thank you so much! One question! The java script on top! is there any way to fix so others dont have to change java security settings to see like i had to do.

! The java script on top! is there any way to fix so others dont have to change java security settings to see like i had to do.

It can't be "fixed".  The straightforward solution is to edit the .htx, uploads, etc. to get rid of the ticker.

Thanks again! Anyone know how to get my location added to the text. The current monitor htx code looks for a station location but its not showing on web site! dont know where the station location comes from.I can just edit the htx file and put my town and state in there but that would be cheating LOL
Title: Re: Hello! Im new here and looking to put my davis weatherstation online

From the HELP file...
Open WeatherLink.

If WeatherLink has more one than one weather station installed, select the weather station you want to provide data for your web page. This should match the station selected above.

Choose NOAA Setup from the Reports Menu. In the City and State fields, enter your city and state. These entries are used to create the City and State HTML tags.

Choose Set Latitude/Longitude from the Setup Menu. Enter your latitude and longitude settings. These settings are used to calculate the sunrise and sunset HTML tags.

With a bit of fiddling, perhaps it will look like mine:

http://www.thecoys.net/weather/Current_Vantage_Pro_Plus.htm

Yes, I know it's "old style".  But I'm that way, too.

Good mourning all! I only have one weather location used and when i look at my NOAA monthly report all the location data is present on top.Now i checked off the NOAA current monthly in the upload box in profile 1 and no location data in my current monitor html on the drive.Do i need to add a path for the NOAA monthly data to see? UPDATE!! I see that a NOAA monthly text file is uploaded but thats all! now i know im missing something LOL

When you view the uploaded NOAA report (on the remote server) does it show the location info?
Title: Re: Hello! Im new here and looking to put my davis weatherstation online

What i have read and heard is that the stations location is reverenced in the noaa station file. When i bring up my monthly noaa info the station location is there on top.I checked off the monthly noaa to be uploaded which sends a noaa monthly text file to my web server.Any other file i should be looking for?Station location still not being displayed on my web page

Does the station line in your .HTX (not the HTM!!) file look EXACTLY  like this?

<TITLE>Current Weather Conditions  at <!--StationCity-->, <!--StationState--></TITLE>

Note that things like line feeds, returns etc. can muck this up.  How are you editing the .htx file?

The only thing I can think of is that your station name/location has illegal characters in it (spaces, punctuation) or its directory is not where Weatherlink expects it to be.  But that doesn't explain why it finds the data.

You could create a new station and just load it with one of your .WLK files to test it.  BTW, what operating system are you using?

on my xp labtop! this i will use 24/7 when web page complete. I could load software on my win 7 tower to check things out! but wont do that unless i get no solutions. Its not a real big deal and i can live with it for now.Another thing i might try is use a newer stations templates to try out.

Try a different template.  Over the years/versions have behaved differently.  Who knows if the Monitor template is correctly supported in your version of WL?

Now, what happens if you:
Click on Setup
Choose Set Latitude/Longitude

?

...so, what are they set to?  (just checking that the settings follow what WeatherLink wants)

And upgrading to version 6.0.1 or so might be a reasonable thing to do.

ok heres a update! i have two weatherlinks on my drive! one was the original in the  c directory called pc link ver 4. This is where i started using weatherlink years ago on this laptop. The other was a upgrade that davis gave me a few years ago which im thinking is not a upgrade because that went into its own folder on the c drive! that ver is 5.9.3.(the current one im using).I just did a upgrade from davis web site and it was installed over the original pc link 4.0 software. This version is 6.0.3.What files do i need to bring over to the pc link folder with the 6.0.3 version on it from the 5.9.3 folder where all my current data is stored.

Just replace <!--StationCity-->, <!--StationState--> with your city and name.  Don't worry about inputting in into WL.

Except that if City and State are not right, then lat/long might also be off which messes up a whole bunch of other things, like sunrise/set.

As long as you make copies before editing...  Any way, good freeware editors include Arachnophilia,  http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.php  NVu   http://www.nvu.com/  and Komposer  http://www.kompozer.net/   The real trick is to make sure that you use the WL weather tags and save the file as .htx (Weatherlink converts the tags in the .htx  to their values in the HTML)

yes, php is better.

I edit all my .htx files in notebook (always hit save)  then have WL save it as .php (put that in the box that says .htm in data upload screen)

You will get there.  Patience. Time. Don't listen to the significant other telling you to stop.
