It looks like WU is ending their mail service (along with the Aviation Weather, blogs, SMS, NOAA weather alerts). I wonder how long until they stop offering weather?

Well.. I can only repeat myself.... we are witnessing a slow death of WU.

The only important thing for me from that note is that there will be some major changes in April, so I can expect many things not working again...

Some of us warned folks years ago when TWC took over... how well did that work? Now Big Blue after Big Green, cutting to max bottom line. Said before, why support PWS when they can scrape and resell data we already send to CWOP etc?

I think the API will be somewhat durable .. all their apps and website are based on it. The services that were pruned never had an API.

I think Jeff Masters needs to buy back WU and take it back to it's roots.

Im not worried, this is just a normal life cycle of webpages.... look at Yahoo, probably the most visited page of all around 2000. Now it is close to bankruptcy, but it was replaced by others... same with ICQ, Napster etc etc. If WU wont exist for much longer others will come, similar or different, even better.

When there is demand someone will try to satisfy it

today, we had some nasty weather of sorts and I got the updates and forecast.

I have weatherlink IP, the template pulls the data from that and cronjob for the historical. It is the Leuven Template 2.8

I'm new here, but I'm glad I stumbled upon this group, and this thread. I know that WeatherBug also provides PWS link-ups (although I haven't really delved into it, because the weather stations they require are too high-priced for me), but is there any other Web-based outfit providing the same service as WU? Or are we stuck with WU?

There are no "specs". If you're able to post to WU, then you can post to MesoWest with an ID. That being said, the QC with Meso is considerably more stringent, so if your PWS is unreliable compared to your neighbors, your obs will be flagged as such. Not perfect, but light years ahead of WU worthless "gold star" crap, or whatever else they have.

There are several others in addition to WU and CWOP;
PWS
WOW
AWEKAS
Weathercloud
Uploading to them will depend on the program you are using.

Unfortunately VWS cannot be updated to use our data through the API so this is no longer a feature they (Ambient) can support.

Try Cumulus. This link goes to Cumulus 1. The new version is CumulusMX. Both are donationware.
