Marine Traffic Script
« on: September 26, 2016, 10:56:11 AM »
Greetings,

I have been using this ships script for a while now and no problems.  Recently - say last couple of months - the embedded map showing the ships is not displaying.  Just a grey box where the map should be.

Looking into it the page seems to load okay in both IE and MS Edge but NOT Fire Fox (v47.0.1).  I have tried clearing the browser cache several time and still no joy.  I have checked the page on all of my home computers and the same result - IE okay but FF not.

I have contacted tech support at marinetraffic.com but they can't reproduce the error of the map not displaying.

So, is anyone else using the script and if so are you having problems with FF displaying it?
Can someone here using FF check the page to see if it displays for you - that will help me determine if it is strictly my systems.

This is my page in question http://lakehuronweather.org/wxMarineShips.php

Here is the Marine Traffic source page of the code to embed. http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/p/embed-map

Thanks in advance for any/all insight.

I am getting a map with ships on both firefox and chrome. It took a long time for the to load but they seem to be displaying correctly.

Just one thing you could try, try setting the width to something lower than 100, you currently have 101.8 and then see if something changes. The width is in percentages and I think it could be the case that FF and Chrome cannot handle it if the percentage is higher than 100 and take it as invalid and throw an error in the JavaScript.

Hi Otis,

I just tried your page in Firefox and had success in versions 45.0,47.0 and 47.0.1, plus the latest version of Chrome.

Interesting, it is not working for me.

Console:
Uncaught ReferenceError: mtMap is not defined

Update:
OK strange... it works for me in FF, but in Chrome I get the above error in console and the map doesnt load
Opera works as well
Chrome no, even after hard reload

Its really strange.
I am using Chrome 53.0.2785.116 m (latest version)

In chrome I get an error in the console and it does not load. In other browsers I see it fine, so it cannot be any IP block or firewall issue

Maybe an incompatible plugin perhaps?

It does not like add-blokkers. But normally it gives a pop up type message explaining that.
Here it works on all browsers.

Is only your site a problem or all sites with that marine traffic page?

Wim, disabled both my adblockers and no luck. Even in incognito mode.

Very interesting Wim and Jachym. I have Adguard Adblocker enabled and can see the map without any issues. Running the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox.

See screenshot - AdBlocks disabled and I see the error in the console. Other browsers no problem, so no firewall issue and reloading cache did not help.

Well appreciate everyone taking a look and sharing ideas.  I tested on a few other of my computers and it is working on them in FF, just not my main computer.  so it must be a localized thing on this particular computer, very strange.

Toxic, no your page does not load in FF on my "main" computer - the one I having problems with.  This particular computer is a Win 10 64 bit system with plenty of RAM so not sure what it is.

Not a fatal flaw since the pages works on other systems, is very strange though.

It may be to soon to be certain but.

I have had some issues last few days with my Internet Security Suite (Zone Alarm) on my main computer, the one which would not display the map.  After downloading and re-installing the security suite this morning the map is once again being displayed.  I'm using ZA 15.0.123.17051.

I'll continue to monitor operations but wanted to pass along this update on current situation.
