WV Severe Weather 06/07/11
« on: June 07, 2011, 01:21:23 PM »
Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect just to the north of me, and they are heading right for me! I clocked the storms moving from near due north at 26.8 mph, and from track, it is supposed to hit my area in 1 hr 53 minutes....There is some very heavy rain with these storms....

Will have images in a moment.

That whole complex should die out as the day goes on.  Definitely less favorable conditions for an MCS the further south it goes.

Same system that was booming when I got this morn at 4;45am.   Swept through southern Ontario, then across the lake into the Cleavland OH area by mid morning.

How did you come up with that conclusion?

Perhaps here?

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html
...OH/WV...
A LINEAR MCS OVER EASTERN OH CONTINUES TO MOVE SOUTHWARD TOWARD THE
OH RIVER.  OVERALL CONDITIONS FOR SEVERE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO
SLOWLY WEAKEN THROUGH THE DAY AS THE UPPER RIDGE BUILDS AND MID
LEVEL WINDS WEAKEN.  HOWEVER...MESOSCALE ORGANIZATION OF MCS MAY BE
SUFFICIENT TO MAINTAIN SOME RISK OF GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON INTO WESTERN WV AND SOUTHERN OH.

#-o #-o Didnt check the SPC today for the first time in probably three months!!!

Looking at some maps, these storms dont have huge echo tops (Hovering between 35,000 and 45,000 feet), but there are some high VILs (30-45 kg/m^2)....There is one storm in southern Ohio that looks pretty nasty: 70 VIL reading and echo tops of 50,000.

I didn't look at the SPC either, although their discussions are great learning tools.  MCSs are largely night time phenomena because they form on the nose low level jet which is strongest at night.  Once the sun comes out and you get strong heating you lose that low level jet and the system starts to die out.
