Need Technical Assistance
« on: December 19, 2014, 06:53:00 PM »
Iv'e searched and read as much as I could about connecting to WU but I haven't been able to find a solution to my issue.

See attached screenshot...I continue to get a connection error.  I think my issue is with the FTP address, but WU states to just enter what you see in the box.  My CAM directions say it should be a number series...?

Any ideas?

OK, it must not be the FTP address then...Trying image size and frequency next.  I know my username and password are correct.

Adding the " ftp:// " would have been my guess as well. how about " http://webcam.wunderground.com " ?

Tried both of the above :(  Changed my video settings to low...No good.  Changed port settings...No good.  Banged head against the wall...Some good, but not with cam.

If correct address and everything still not working WU webcams are very hit and miss and basically unreliable. I only get a few pics each day that go through.

Palerider click on the FTP hyperlink I posted above, you should get login pop up. Try logging in to verify username and pass is working. If you can login with browser it is problem on WU side as usual. Don't expect many images going through anyway.

Best place would be a simple webpage.

also on your WU cam setup page there's a choice of camera settings for "FTP" or "URL".

Yes, but I don't have a website and not really looking for starting one at this time.
If I found an easy way to obtain one, and manage it (don't have a lot of time) and one that I could stream an image on, I may do it.  Wouldn't need WU then I imagine...

You have the correct login and pass. Give it some time maybe pic will eventually go through. Make sure you haven't exceeded pic size.

Will do..I have dialed down the video resolution to lowest.  Once it goes through (if) I will dial it up.

As a follow-on.  Any recommended locations to purchase a web site/domain?

Thanks!  I have now registered a domain (Nomadweather.com) with GoDaddy.  I have their webpage maker but I am at a loss on how to have my IP webcam (Foscam) send images to the site.
Any suggestions?

If you want people to view your webcam you can do it without a website.  Since it's an IP cam, as long as the router is on and you are connected the Internet, the webcam is accessible from anywhere.  However, you will need to set up a static IP address through DDNS.  There are many free static IP sites like no-ip.com (or similar).  You then set up a "visitor" login or some IP cameras have the option to set up certain streams to be login-free so you just need to go to the web address and see the IP cam stream (provided they have the correct plugin for that type of stream).  You can also set up a jpg image refresh using some Java script which requires no video plugins.  I set up a cam in a sheep-shed so anyone can see these sheep.  Just copied some Java to refresh a jpg image every second to make a poor-man's video stream: http://fullyfleeced.com/sheepcam/
