Success! Tiny no-cable USB 2.0 hub works with Meteobridge
« on: December 17, 2014, 11:53:09 AM »
To get my Meteobridge up and running a few weeks ago, I used a full-size seven-port USB 2.0 hub.

My "Cute USB Mini 2-Port USB 2.0 Hub Splitter" arrived today from Amazon and was immediately plugged into the TP-Link MR3040 with Meteobridge firmware/software. It translates the USB 1.1 output of the Davis Vantage Pro2 console to the TP-Link just fine.

Basically the same price as the recommended Belkin hub ($10 US). Comes in multiple colors and is very small; 7/8" long x 3/4" square around (2.2 cm x 1.9 cm).

It looks good, but I'd rather have one with a cable so as not to stress the USB port.

Can't say I think stress would be a problem, but I certainly didn't think of that issue either.

Not really sure how much stress could be there. The hub sits flat on the counter and the end of the MR3040, which doesn't weigh much, is elevated about 2mm. I suppose some folded paper or a couple of popsicle sticks under the end of the 3040 would eliminate any pressure, if that was a concern.

Now, if a large dictionary fell on the MR3040, that would be stress. :-)

You're probably right that stress won't be too much of a factor. I tend to overthink these kind of things.

Does the hub go between the console and the Meteobridge, or in the line to the router?

Between console and MB.  It translates USB 2 to 1.1
