Melbourne FL Doppler Down
« on: July 29, 2018, 07:37:29 PM »
I think the Melbourne Florida doppler radar is down. I don't have direct link but my mobile app is showing a large gap of missed coverage for that middle part of Florida. I use Raindar because although old it is very almost live and instantaneous with no delay. Other apps are as much as 5 to 10 minutes out.

Does anyone know of a way of confirming that it is down? Is there like an official notice somewhere? Hopefully it will say when it's coming back.

Anyone know if it is normal for a major doppler to go down for so long? Just notice it down all day today so far.

Wonder if it is down for routine maintenance or broken.

In case anyone is curious this is what it looked like today as I drove down the East coast on I95. See attached screenshots with large gap looking like clear weather. I totally thought I was going to be driving in good weather coming out of Orlando. When I notice the weather was actually getting worse I was confused. Bad thunderstorms, lighting, and torrential down pore, zero visibility. I thought my app was misbehaving. I thought maybe I had lost Internet connection. I restarted my phone and still no radar for the area I was in.

Lesson learned. Any weather product is only as good as it is current. Always check the time of issuance.

Ours was down a few weeks not too long ago when the Bull Gear broke   That's the BIG gear that makes the dish go'round.

Oh wow! Thanks Weather Host. It isn't just Melbourne that is down. Tampa is down too. What are the chances of that, the entire middle section of Florida is gone from radar.  And this is hurricane season!
