Title: Mid-January Cold...
Post by: Intheswamp on January 16, 2018, 07:29:36 PM
Ok, everybody seems to be getting a good dose of this cold weather.  Here in Dixie it's downright COLD for us!!!!  Supposed to be down around 20-21 degrees in the morning.  Sleet and snow during the night.  1" to 3"...will probably will shut the area down for a day or so...no kiddin'.  Temperature was dropping late this evening with a steady breeze (wind is supposed to pick up later).  Just too cold for this southern boy, but it's strange the more of it we get the more we *kind* of get used to it......nah, I think my brain must be frozen to think that!!!   #-o

Anyhow, I pulled into the yard this evening to find these two snowbirds sitting on the roof of the house.  Really odd to see these white birds squatting on the roof ridge in this kind of weather.  I had to check some outside faucets to be sure they were dripping and the birds were basically just above one of them...the birds didn't budge, just kept an eye on me.  I figure they were from New Jersey heading to St. Pete, but can't swear to it.  Anyhow, I checked the other faucets and went back to check on the snowbirds...they had gone.  I guess they'd figured out that wasn't the best place to be with the weather we're having tonight...smart birds. ;)

Lot of truth to that . After yesterday we had a high of 6° but windchill was -25F most of day with 25 mph wind. Today it was around 19 and felt very nice. I didn't even need a hat outside.

19 and feeling very nice....that'll take me a LOT of getting used to!!!

My wife is spending the night with our daughter and granddaughters.  The snow is supposed to be here in the wee hours of the morning so naturally I told my wife to put me on speakerphone so I could say something to the granddaughters (age 2.5/7/10).  I told them to be sure and stay up so they could see it snow.<grin>  I know my wife and daughter appreciated that.<BIG GRIN>  Then I asked them if they had their bathing suits on (just kidding with them about the cold).  Well, the head-strong 2.5 yo granddaughter immediately put in to wanting her bathing suit on.  I told everybody to have fun and left them with it.

11.5F and dropping?...I'd be the one dropping!!!!

...and so far this morning on Alabama Highway 10 there has been *maybe* 10 vehicles pass by and that's from roughly less than 2" of snow.

All that picture needs is a sleigh and a horsey pulling it...

Wow and I thought 113°F was bad...
