I finally got around to calling Davis regarding my unit. They sent a replacement right away. They also sent a prepaid return label. The only thing I found odd is that they did not request a credit card number for collateral. They just delivered the new one and asked that I send back the old one right away.

The light does function properly and does not turn off on its own now.

The two serial numbers for reference are:

New Unit:  AZ170327014
Old Unit:   AZ170118019

I have one of the VP2 Consoles with the backlight fault. I called Customer Support and will receive a new console later this week.

When installing the new console, do I need to shut it down or can it be hot swapped? Also, I assume all my data will be lost so how do I retain all my previous data.

Other than the backlight issue, I'm extremely happy with my Davis VP2.

Do you have a data logger in the console? If so, you can remove it and install it in the new console and all the data should be there. Without a datalogger you are stuck, I believe. Do you upload data to weatherlink and in turn upload to the Internet?

I am using the 6510 USB with Weatherbridge to connect to 4 different weather servers. The software I am using is what came with the USB interface, WeatherLink 6.0.3.

You should be fine. The data from your station should be in the datalogger which is then periodically uploaded to Weatherlink via your USB cable. First make sure data is current in Weatherlink, then transfer the datalogger from the old console to the new one and you should be good to go!

Yes, No.  Follow the instructions for removing/installing the logger.  Hint: See my answer to your first question.

Also, you should remember to make appropriate settings on your new console - such as date/time, any calibrations, etc. etc. etc.
