Really sad - this area was pulverized about two years around the same time I was. Prayers for the folks dealing with this kind of damage, especially with it being Memorial Day weekend. It's about 15 miles from Baltimore. :-(

This one wasn't caused by rainfall directly. The storms produced enormous amounts of rainfall west of Ellicott City, causing a huge flash flood down the Patapsco River there which runs very close to the town....

I remember seeing that area flood a couple of years ago. Some of the video looked just as bad, if not, worse than the first flood.

Looks like heavy rains are contributing to a dam failure in North Carolina. One of the more strongly worded NWS warnings I've seen in awhile.

Looks like heavy rains are contributing to a dam failure in North Carolina. One of the more strongly worded NWS warnings I've seen in awhile.
As of this morning the warnings have been scaled back.
McDowell County Emergency Management issued the following statement just after 10 a.m.:
"The emergency at Lake Tahoma has been canceled. The evacuation order is no longer in effect. The engineer has performed a safety inspection and determined that the evacuation order is no longer needed.
Please remain alert for additional updates, as additional rainfall is expected this afternoon. We appreciate the public's understanding during this storm.
Once again the mandatory evacuation order for all residents below Lake Tahoma has been canceled."

Great to hear! I'm sure those folks are happy that their area isn't going to be inundated by dam water, but might be a little irritated that they were evacuated for a little while and it turned out to kind of be a false call.
