WS-8478 or WS-2000 Smart
« on: April 14, 2019, 08:24:31 PM »
Which one of these seems to be the best? I'm leaning towards the WS-8478 till I saw the description saying something about only 60 seconds sending data to WU.. I want to send rapid fire 16 seconds or less.
The plus with the 8478 seems to be the floating sensor for my hot tub and the soil sensor where the other doesn't have.

Best advice since they are pretty much same price.

The WS-2000 without a doubt. Realize that even though they both are "branded" as Ambient Weather stations they are actually made by two different manufactures.

The WS-2000 Smart is a popular choice among wxforum member. I cant give you much feedback because I do not own one but a search here in the forum for the models will yield grate information.

Good luck!

and @galfert beat me to it! :D

Yeah looking at all that seems the 2000 is the way to go..just a little put off that I can't get that tub sensor and it work with it or the soil sensor.

The WS-2000 will have a soil sensor soon and also a PM2.5 sensor.

I got the 2000 and I'm setting it up - how do I get it to fire of to WU in seconds vs 1 minute intervals?

Well I started the firmware update - 100% erased and sitting at 0% for the last 5 minutes on write.. how long does it take?

Edit: 10mins and going at 0%
I got the feeling I'm screwed.

That is not going right. I suggest you start over. I recommend a factory reset before firmware upgrade. I also recommend a small SD card as the one you may be using may be incompatible. Or it may not have been inserted well fully.

Definitely read this thread fully

Ok its firmware updated to most recent version - I still don't see where I can adjust it to less than 1 minute firing off to WU?
Am I missing something?

Older firmware did not do 16 second uploads. Recent versions updated to 16 seconds and I think it was around when 1.3.8 was released. There is nothing more to do. There is no adjustment...it just does it.

Ok a little off question with regards to other services other than WU.
I know WU was a setting on the station..but what about PWSweather, weatherbug, anything weather, OpenWeatherMap and CWOP... how can I broadcast to those places also?

With the WS-2000 and without extra hardware/software you can only send data to WU, WeatherCloud, and AmbientWeather.net directly. Then you can have Ambientweather.net send data to PWSweather.

Weatherbug is no more as of about a year ago.

To send to other places you need to invest in other hardware and software. There are several methods to accomplish this. You should research them and draw your own conclusions as to what fits what you are trying to accomplish and your budget and your technical expertise and willingness to dedicate time into setting these other methods up.

This is a good thread to learn about the different methods. It doesn't go into details. It just explains the overall requirements and then you can research these methods to get the details.
https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=34922.0

Although that thread's focus was on CWOP, it pertains to just about everywhere else. Because usually the software that can send to CWOP is also able to send to many other places.

So far the 2000 is working great... my only issue that I'm wondering if there is an adjustment is the temp read out on the display shows for example 81.3 yet reported to Wundergound as 81
Is there a way I wonder to give it that decimal point to WU as I think my old Acurite did that.

That is a WU issue with their new website. They know this is an issue and they have assured that they will fix soon.

But for now you can go to the old WU website and there you'll see that you station is sending the correct and precise temperature data in tenths of a degree. Just replace your WU station ID in the following URL. This one is for my station.

Sorry but you gotta be doing something wrong. That doesn't add up.

What is your WU station ID? PM it if you don't want to share it publicly.
