RIP Walter
« on: July 17, 2009, 08:35:59 PM »
Walter Cronkite died tonight.  The most trusted man in America.  In those days, news was news, and not fluff.  And that's the way it was.

Oh that is sad news.  One thing that made Walter so great is that no one ever knew what his politics were.  I have always missed him on the news and I will continue to miss him.  My prayers and condolences to his family.

I honestly didn't know he was still alive. Man he had to be ancient. No disrespect but  I'm almost 50 and I remember him doing the news when I was young.
RIP Walter.
And that's the way it is.

He was 92.

Another of the old time TV folk that carried a little more respect in my book then many of today.

Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing

His broadcast was the most watched and reviewed of that day.

A little amazing on timing too.

Walter was very professional but had a sense of humor that he rarely displayed.
During his anchor reporting days, when he was absent the announcer would say " ... is filling in for Walter Cronkite who is on assignment". Walter loved sailing and his boat was named "Assignment".
