Stuck Anemometer/direction
« on: August 12, 2009, 02:29:23 AM »
Just noticed this tonight and looks like this has been going on for a few days.  Ever since a storm on the 6th our wind direction has been stuck at 360° (N) with the exception of a couple times where it was near N but not at 360°.  I will go out and look at it in the morning but wanted your opinions on what could have caused it especially since it seems to correspond almost directly with the wind gust that we got.

Here is the WU chart for the 6th:

From the ISS manual:

Quote
"The wind direction is stuck on north, or displays dashes.”

It is likely that there is a short somewhere between the wind vane and the display.
Check the cables for visible nicks and cuts. Look for corrosion in the “WIND” jack
on the SIM and on splices in the cable (if any). If possible, remove any extensions
and try it with the anemometer cable only. If none of these steps get the wind
direction working, contact Technical Support and ask for a wind test cable.

People always talk about the weather, but they never do anything about it.  Not me.  I'm gonna measure it.  https://www.tceweather.com

Thanks for the info.

I called Davis and they are sending me an anemometer test kit which I assume is the wind test cable mentioned in the excerpt.

Will keep you informed as I find out new information.
