Am I missing any parts on this weather station?
« on: March 15, 2017, 12:01:27 PM »
My brother-in-law was taking stuff he had left behind a few years ago, to his new house.

He gave me this Meade weather station as he didn't want to take it.  I'm going to give it to a friend who will enjoy it more.

Are there any parts missing?  There might be a component from something else also in this pic, as I took whatever looked related from his "throw-away" pile during the move-out cleaning.

And if anything is missing, what part exactly?  What replacement model should I get?

It looks like I might be missing something for mounting the anemometer.

Don't see temperature unit for outside  after looking at other meade units on line.

I don't know anything about Meade, so I don't know if the apparent lack of anemometer cups is normal.....

To me this looks like a console, wind direction sensor and rain gauge

Which unit did you look at to compare with?

If I compare with this:

http://www.meade.com/te827w-professional-weather-station.html

And I get this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Anenometer-Corrosion-Resistant-Outdoor-Use-Education-Weather-3-Black-1-Red-Cups-/132053030542?hash=item1ebef9568e:g:-VoAAOSwZQRYa4hX

Will it be complete?

Can these cups be connected to the Meade parts that I have?

I've spent hours looking.  I'm not sure if there's replacement weather cups I can get that will work with the Meade / Honeywell components.

Just an update on this.

I found out it's a Meade TE923W weather station.

It's supposed to come with these things:

++++++++++++

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/627228/Meade-Te923w.html?page=3#manual

Introduction
Thank you for selecting the Meade Professional Weather Station with Remote control. This
compact and easy-to-use product features a wide variety of time and weather data, such as
precise atomic time, perpetual calendar, air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure,
wind speed and direction, rainfall, UV levels and etc.

In this package you will find:

One Main Unit (receiver) (TE923WD)
One IR Remote Control (TS607)
One Rain Gauge (remote rain sensor/transmitter) (TS906)
One Anemometer (remote wind sensor/transmitter) (TS805)
One UV (ultraviolet) sensor (remote ultraviolet sensor/transmitter) (TS704)
One Five-Channel Temperature & Humidity Sensor (transmitter) (TS34C)

+++++++++++++++

* I ordered both LaCrosse TX23WCA wind cups, and a Davis Instruments 7905L wind cups.  Hopefully one of them will fit with the Meade anemometer.

* I ordered a TS34C humidity sensor, since I was missing that.

* I was also missing the UV sensor.  I called Meade, they told me to call Honeywell.  I called Honeywell, they gave me Meade's number.  When I told Honeywell that Meade was the one that referred me to Honeywell, they then got on a conference call.  When Honeywell returned to me, Honeywell said they'd escalate this and I'd hear back either via phone or email within 48 hours.

Over a week later, and I didn't hear anything back.

I called Honeywell again.  They then got on a conference call with Meade, and said Meade would help me.  They then transferred me to Meade.  Meade said they don't have any, but that Telescope Warehouse might.

I then called Telescope Warehouse, and someone said the parts guy would hopefully get back to me by the end of today.

This was my post LaCrosse weather station entry.  It served me well (I bought it before Honeywell sold it to Meade) but the resolution was dismal (45 seconds on wind, 90 seconds on rain).  It was finicky to say the least.

Save up my money and bought a David VP2 pro in 2013.  You get what you pay for I guess.

Do they have a UV sensor that would be compatible with my Meade weather station?

I tried checking here:

What type of resolution does your David VP2 pro get for wind and rain?

Since this was something given to me as a gift, I'm trying to work with what I have right now.

Davis windspeed updates every 2.5 seconds and the rain gauge is 0.2mm per tip and updates every few seconds

looks like an Irox clone

Meade actually acquired this from Honeywell, but I'm not sure the line of succession.  When I bought it the name was Honeywell TE-923W, but later Honeywell no longer branded it, and in the States it was sold under the Meade brand.  I believe Irox is a generic term for it but not sure.

Is there somewhere on that Irox website that I can find a compatible UV sensor, that would work with the Meade?

An update on this.

Last month, I took the weather station to my friend's place.

We set up the main monitor unit.  Setting the clock was a challenge.  After selecting the time zone code, we couldn't figure out how to set the time.  45 mins later, we finally got it.  We were supposed to set the language before setting the time zone code and other time components.

Since we weren't using OEM wind cups, we took it to a hardware store and asked for suggestions to make the wind cups stick.

After thinking about it, they suggested Gorilla glue.

We didn't want to do anything that permanent.

We ended up wrapping a thin piece of tape around the metal part, and that was enough to secure the wind cups in place.

Removing the screws for the battery compartment for the wind sensor was also a challenge, since they used non-standard micro-screws.

We set up the temperature and humidity sensor.

We also set up the rain collector.  At first, it looked like this wasn't working.  But we finally realized we had to hit down for several seconds to initially sync up the transmission.

So it was an overall success.

Then, a few days ago, when I was looking through my Christmas ornaments, I found the UV sensor, as well as the OEM wind cups, physical instruction manual, and original temperature sensor (negating my need to have bought a replacement).

The UV sensor was something I couldn't find a replacement for, earlier in the year.

So, we are going to get together again and finish setting up the last component, the UV sensor.

Seeing how all of this comes together, it looks pretty cool.

They don't make this model anymore.

I'm curious though, is there another manufacturer which makes a weather station which will measure these same characteristics (temperature, humidity, rain, wind speed, wind direction, moon phases, and UV sensor)?

It would be good to know, in case I ever wanted one for myself, just like I gave my friend.

Now that I see how to use it, and what it does.

Hopefully something that's a little easier to use (setting the time), and with easier battery compartments.
