Remote Cabin Weather Station w/ Data Logging
« on: September 30, 2009, 09:38:34 AM »
Attempting to find a weather station for a remote mountain cabin location (minimal solar power). I'm looking for a simple weather station that will run of batteries and at minimum capture indoor/outdoor temperature data logs and allow you to scroll thru them without the use of a PC.  Many offer capturing the hi/lo w/ date, but not a data log of say the last 30 day hi/lo.

Suggestions?

Something like this should work:  http://www.dicksondata.com/product/model_FT300.php  But what I'd do is get a very cheap logger (like 40-50 bucks) and then add an eeePC for another 150 or so.  Total cost will be far less than the Dickson or equivalent unit.

I've been in email with panamapat about this, and already emailed him about it. For the record, I thought I'd post it here, regarding the new Vantage Vue.

From http://www.ambientweather.com/dain62vavuew.html

End of the 3rd paragraph down:

"Vantage Vue also boasts the innovative Weather Center button that displays additional data on weather variables for today and over the last 25 days."

So, it looks like the VV will show some data from the last 25 days.

OTOH, what a silly number. Why not make it 31 and cover the longest months?

As guess, maybe it is some sort of memory limitation of a certain sized memory chip?
