WeatherLink by Davis Instruments / Re: Weatherlink and weather-display

can a program other than weatherlink upload data to the new weatherlink.com 2.0 platform?

They seem keen to keep it proprietary and haven't ever, to my knowledge, released the upload protocol or authentication credentials required.

I guess one benefit is that all the data on the WLC map (27,000+ stations now) must be coming from reasonable quality stations and so is going to be more credible overall than eg WU, but I agree it's a shame that the upload options aren't more flexible. I suspect that quite a few users will be content with WLC2 - especially once the promised extra features are in place probably sometime later next year - but there's currently no way for someone with a USB logger to connect just to eg a Raspberry Pi to manage the uploads, but you need to be running a full Windows PC 24/7 to do this.

yes
tick the option in the com port setup, weather link, to release the port every minute
(and then make sure that the console time matches the pc time)

Isn't this just for WeatherlinkIP? If someone wants to run the Weatherlink program (eg with a USB logger) as the upload agent to WLC2 (which is how I read the original post BICBW) then I'd have guessed it wants continuous access to the stream of LOOP packets, much as WD presumably does?

Davis Instruments Weather Stations / Re: Pole Heat and appearance

Any heat from the pole would be negligible.

The radiation shield will protect it from any radiated heat (which is far less than that of the sun).

Even the slightest breeze would provide adequate mixing of any air heated by convection.  And if perfectly still, the convection would cause any heated air to rise.

And remember, air is a very poor conductor of heat.  So the ability of that pole to transfer any real amount of heat to the air is minimal.

Davis Instruments Weather Stations / Vantage Pro 2?
« Last post by wrz0170 on Yesterday at 10:18:36 PM »
Hello!  After I posted http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=33376.0 here, I did a bit of reading and it appears that Vantage Pro 2 might do the trick.  Astrophotography and having fun with it.  I.e. uploading to WunderStation app or something similar.

With that said, I’m very new to the PWS hobby and recommendations on “must have” extras  and nice to have.  There appears to be a number of add ons, so basically where to start.

To recap, I live in a very sunny area.  Little shade.  Very windy at times (Reno, Nv).

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

William
