I would like to have seen that image earlier. Did anyone happen to save a screen shot.

It was there yesterday as well, go to my archive and see for your self.

I think it is a reflection in your own window Andrew

Lars,
If anthony's web cam is capturing a reflection in my window, then I have a major system/privacy breach

Anthony,
Your view appears to be a 45 degree angle to the street, is the window a bay window? 45 to street as well, I assume that is what is causing the reflection.    I angled mine 30 degrees to prevent the cam from seeing itself. However at times in the afternoon you can see part of the camera in the bottom right of the glass.  That is why the garage roof is in so much of the frame...optimally the view would look straight out.  However in the winter I can see snow accumulation better by having the roof in the frame.   I cut down on all my other interior reflections (lights, hallway, etc), by building a small enclosure for it, and painted painted black on the inside.  I guess I could paint the camera black too....

I have one that I cap'd yesterday, its not as good/bad as the view this morning. I'm glad a few other people saw it earlier today, cause if you just happened by this link and went to Anythony's site, you would instantly just say "that's a reflection of something inside anthony's house"

if you look really carefully, so does it looks as if someone is taking a nap, Anthony????

Anthony,
You really need to get that reflection fixed.  Found this on Lars's archive site from last night.  The Dean is going to close down your fraternity, and expel you from school if he sees this.

Pretty fancy box you have there.  My dad's solution was to cut up a "holy" black sock and tape it to the window around the webcam.  #-o

Sorry guys. But I don't buy that last one.

As for your earlier queston Andrew. The windows in my livingroom are in an "L" shape, across the front and down the left  side (this is if you are looking out the front windows). The cam is in the last window on the side. The camera could be at a slight tilt. But the street does run uphill. You are right. An enclosure arount the camer would prevent the reflection. But the wife would not stand for a box in her window. For what I spent for the camera. I am happy with the job it does. And I will admit. That the view out the back of the house would be better that where it is now. But the USB cable for the camera it at it's max now. So untul my wealthy uncle dies or I hit the lottery. I'm stuck with what I have.

Thanks,
Anthony

Sure.  please

Here are my links.  #1 is the better one.  #2 will get better if I get some stimulus money to get several thousand dollars worth of new windows.  For some reason my wife wont let me just replace the one in the office to improve the cam image.  Its all about her

GDay all
I to had reflections which bugged me no end.
I went to the hobby shop got some black heavy paper, cut a hole for lens and placed on window with the hole over the camera lens. Works great - no more reflection. Cost = 50c.

The fan would be to stop fogging / condensation.

Older house, crappy windows so when it gets down around -10 they start really fogging/sweating.  This is made worse by my enclosure preventing natural warming from interior heating.

So that fan is connected to an x10 timer it comes on just before sunrise in the winter on weekdays for about 30 minutes, and a few more times shortly during day.  I can also remotely fire it up, if I notice water on my image at other times.

I actually used the balcony near the front cam, as a storage area after our move, and renovations.  There was a half size step ladder there, which my camera was one, I just drapped a t-shirt over it to prevent reflection.  However once wife made me clean up, needed make a mount, and hiding it was two fold, she did not want to see the camera and I did not want reflection.   When zoomed in, the box looks pretty big, but from the ground level its not too noticeable.

Speaking of pop solutions (see my diet coke usage)   This was my attempt at stopping bounce back reflection of ir led's prior to my camera manufacturer finally doing a firmware revision to turn them off.  I cant find the reflected images anymore, but any evening or night shots had a halo of 12 bright led's.

None of these solutions worked.  You could see the led's through the sock, like it was not even there.   DC case as well.  Even with metallic tape on backing, the light bled through.  Kray's holey black sock reference reminded me of these pics

Follow up to last post.

Here is what my night time image looked like with sock, almost no change from nothing.

Night time image with Diet coke cardboard ... see right through it.

Night time image with DC cardboard backed with metallic tape.  Amazing how much light spilled out.

In all three, the camera got really hot from the led's being covered up.

So that's why this camera collected dust for 10 months until Trendnet did a firmware release to turn off the IR LED's.

I recently added a cheap webcam to my front page.  Mostly just to see if I could get it to work.  Not much to see in my front yard and not fringe on the neighbors.  But have a view of the street in front of my house. Looking south and not a very good view to any weather/sky conditions. (Sigh)

Like I said, it's a cheap (42USD) camera.  Using Where's James (?) software.

I would like to improve on it someday, but don't really have a good view in any  other direction at my place, so much too much value in having it.  I might try video someday and turn it into a "neighbors-who-walk-their-dogs-to-crap-in-other-peoples-yard" camera.
