looks like Russians not doing to well.

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/19/16022433-deep-freeze-across-russia-dips-to-50-below-at-least-45-die?lite=

wonder if these are younger people who are pushing the extremes. After all they are use to these temps like most Alaskan are.

But, the article doesn't say it was -40 only that the wind-chill was that low. The actual temp was -20 degrees F which I am sure most of Alaska sees on a regular basis during the winter. When I lived I in Montana back in the 60's we had -38 with wind-chills well below -60F.

How do u freeze to death in Russia?  There is no shortage of wood to burn for heat..... stay inside and cover up in some blankets...  Must be homeless people that are dying?   I dont understand how people just freeze to death.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

I suspect some not un-typical media muddle.
Russia today talks about -50 with no mention of windchill.

It's a wide area affected and some will have been caught out by the sudden onset.

I don't suppose all the attributed deaths literally died of hypothermia - more media creativity! - I wouldn't be surprised if the figure included those who slipped on ice or even had weather related road accidents.

Still don't understand why humans would choose to live in such areas unless running from the law.  Buy a plane ticket and get the F out of there!  Let's see....plane ticket or freeze to death, plane ticket or freeze to death....such a difficult decision!!!!!!
