Grh I need a pointer on a PHP issue

I have a array containing data same or similar to below

13="31-JAN-10" 

exactly as shown above and what I want is 

31-JAN-10

I am not sure what is best, preg_split of something else. My problem with preg_split is I haven't managed to get my head around the process of regular expressions.
