Title: alternative way to ftp?
Post by: m77 on January 14, 2011, 11:13:09 AM
I have a pc with one gig of memory and a 1.8 processor. I am running windows xp. I am also running yawcam Webcam capturing an image every 5 mins.

when I try to run a batch file to ftp a very small wxsim forecast file it takes forever.

is there another way to get the file automatically to my server?

You could use Fling to do that.

The choice of SW should not matter; something else is going on.

that's what I thought.

it works on my laptop on the same network which may tell us something.

the pc struggles for memory . could it be this?

if so is there an alternative apart from from getting more memory or changing machines?

Short of getting more memory, you might be able to stop Yawcam, FTP and then restart.  You should look at Task Manager to see who is using the memory/processor.  Or try a lighter weight FTP like http://winscp.net/eng/download.php

that sounds do able.

when you say light weight ftp, how do you know what is and what isn't? I will try your suggestions when I return on Monday but what do you look for for a lightweight ftp?

just realised that the weather link software has an upload facility. I will check that out also on Monday.
