Anemometer cable compatibility?
« on: September 25, 2018, 08:35:56 PM »
Greetings! I own a Davis Weather Wizard III. The anemometer stopped working a few years ago and we’ve been limping along with a partially functional unit since then. Looking to upgrade to the Vantage Pro (wireless). Even though it’s wireless, the anemometer has a 12-meter cable that I assume connects to the station indoors. It was a painstaking job to install the Weather Wizard III anemometer on a pole at the peak of the roof fishing cable through the attic space, down the walls two stories and into the kitchen where we have the console mounted on the wall. I wonder if the cable is the same as the new one and if I can simply splice into that cable to utilize the new anemometer. Anyone know?

Yes cable is same according to the Wizard 3 manual it says use Extension Cables
Extends cable length for total cable runs of 80-140 feet (24-42 m) sensor
to console. Order the 4-Conductor Extension Cable [in lengths of 40 feet
(12 m) or 100 feet (30 m)] for use with the anemometer, external temperature
sensor, Rain Collector, or WeatherLink.

Here is the 4 conductor wire manual also says it's same wire

The VP2's anemometer cable connects to the ISS unit outdoors, which is also attached to the rain/temp sensors.  The ISS unit sends the signal from there wirelessly to the indoor console.  There's no reason to run a cable from the anemometer into your house.....

 True, I missed the part connects to station indoors. It doesn't.  The 40' cable will connect to wireless ISS transmitter outdoors.

The 40 foot length is in case you want to have your unit near the bottom of a "standard" 10 meter (33 foot) high mounting pole for the anemometer. (Obviously, not everyone follows or can follow that standard.)
