Early this morning with a low sun angle resulting in a vapor trail casting a shadow on the cloud above.

I dont think that is a shadow
the sun would need to below the horizon for that to occur
(as it does not match very well either )
instead I think they are so close together, the vapour trail has caused evaporation of the cirrus cloud above it (possibly due to a slight warming of the air from the jet exhaust)

I have seen other photos of B-17s during WWII showing vapor trails.
