Hi Ken,
today, looking at the page for a long time, I noticed this:
- Sometimes message appears "station offline since X hours" (always since midnight, for example at 16.30 said "16-hours") with the counter still zero. Reloading the page all came back normal;
- Other times the message of the forecasts stopped flowing, but the LED was still green, the worked counter and the values of the gauges continued to be updated regularly. Reloading the page, however, the situation remained unchanged.
If you look at the page (http://www.lunavalenza.altervista.org/ssg/gauges-ss.htm, you will probably see the situation with the stationary text of the forecasts.
What do you think about?

Hi Piero,

You're using the steelseriesVWSjson.php V1.02 -- I fixed that issue in V1.03 (but it is tied to the V2.1 gauges release).
Mark will be releasing the fully supported VWS in his V2.1 release of the Steel Series gauges on 26-Jan-2013

I suggest you reinstall and customize the V2.1 gauges when available and that will fix the issues (including the 'red' barometer areas, and the mouseover graphics).

You can see what the gauges look like with the three software types:

Cumulus:  http://saratoga-weather.org/ssVWS/gauges-ss-basic-CU.htm
Weather-Display: http://saratoga-weather.org/ssVWS/gauges-ss-basic-WD.htm
VWS: http://saratoga-weather.org/ssVWS/gauges-ss-basic-VWS.htm

all driven from my Davis VP1+ through the respective software.

Best regards,
Ken

Ok Ken, very well.
I saw the pages, perfect. I'll wait for tomorrow.
By chance have you had a look at the possibility to hide the forecasts tape too?

Thanks

Hi Piero,

If you mean remove it like on http://saratoga-weather.org/ssVWS/gauges-ss-basic-VWSn.htm

then just edit the HTML and remove
Code: [Select]
   <canvas id="canvas_status" width="350" height="25"></canvas>&nbsp;&nbsp;
and the scroller will be gone from the page.

If you want the scroller there, but no forecast displayed, then leave the above line in the HTML and instead change steelseriesVWSjson.php
Code: [Select]
$JSONdata["forecast"] = preg_replace('|\+|',' ',$wflash2[271]); to
Code: [Select]
$JSONdata["forecast"] = ' '; and it will show messages, but no forecast.

Best regards,
Ken

Thanks Ken,
I downloaded and reinstalled the complete package, I'm testing since yesterday and it seems to work very well.
Even your notes on tape forecasts work, thank you!
There is only one regret: the windrose! Really nice, too bad!  ;)
Thanks again and see you next time, you're always welcome on my site!

Today, as there is rain, I could test the rain gauges.
The rain rate gauge displays a daily maximum value that does not match to the values actually achieved (attach photo).

Hi Paul,
as you can see in the image of my last post, the rain rate gauge shows "2.5", but the red arrow of the max is locked to 1.
Would not have to move to 2.5?

Hi Piero,
I guess I had not looked at the SS gauges in enough detail as I hadn't even noticed that maximum red arrow.  If VWS keeps the same "current" and "daily maximum" rain rate data as Cumulus does then I would have expected the maximum rate to show 2.5 or more as you indicated.  Unfortunately I cannot help but hopefully someone else can.

Thanks Paul, I think vws collect the necessary parameters, perhaps it is a conversion problem, but I do not know exactly .. We wait and see if someone can tell us something, Ken will surely have the answer, otherwise I'll try to post the problem to Mark on the forum.

Hi Piero,

For the three rain parameters, the steelseriesVWSjson.php uses
Code: [Select]
$JSONdata["rfall"] = convertRain($wflash2[254],$uomRain).$uomRain; // WD Sample= '0.00 in.'
$JSONdata["rrate"] = convertRain($wflash2[257],$uomRain); // WD Sample= '0.00'
$JSONdata["rrateTM"] = convertRain($wflash2[150],$uomRain); // WD Sample= '0.000'
which are all data from the wflash2.txt file.  The data there is from
Quote
[254]   ^vxv121^: Daily Rain
[257]   ^vxv124^: Rain Rate
[150]   ^vrh009^: Total Rain Rate Hi

So the red tick may be from the [150] ^vrh009^: Total Rain Rate Hi which I thought was reset each day, but may be the highest ever recorded by the station.

Best regards,
Ken

Thanks Ken for your accurate answer.
I noticed that VWS does not show the "rain rate hi" data on the screen and does not record in the daily archives.
I have read the http://saratoga-weather.org/show-wflash.php page: exists, only in wflash2 file, the tag "total rain hi" which, in fact, is reset every day, but it is different from the maximum daily rain rate.
I checked the archives records: Yesterday, the rain rate reached a maximum of 2.6 mm / hr, but the maximum "total rain hi" was just 1.3 as the red tick marked: I think we'll have to keep so.
Due to this experience I discovered that VWS is a wonderful software from the point of view of customization of gauges, graphics etc., but would need some update on the available data.

Yes, VWS does have a lot of tags, but many of them are useless (like high rate of change of wind direction ?!?) and annoyingly, some really useful tags are missing .. like all the 'yesterday' data tags.  It has a pretty face, but could use additional webtags for data display...  As I'd said before, the steelseriesVWSjson.php file only had access to the limited set of data published by VWS for use in the Steel Series gauges.

Of course, with steelseriesVWSjson you could not do more.
Hopefully someone of Ambient Sofware reads and draws inspiration ... On the other hand, it seems to me that it's been a long time since the last update!

A great job, :-)

But for some of us not easy to implement,as I speak for myself now Iám not that familiar with software isues.
I have read this post several times and the wiki part too,but after downloading the files and unzip it I see a couple of files but do not have any idea what to do with them or where to put them, this is the same question for the script.

Is there someone who can post a step by step roadmap? with screen prints to support so one knows what to do?

Do I have to copy past some of the files and implement them into the vws c  folder ? and if so where?

Thanks in advance for some help.

Cheers Chris

This requires VWS to upload the WeatherFlash conditions files.
If you are using the Saratoga templates, most likely this is already turned on.
You can check it by opening VWS and then go to the menu bar and select Internet -> WeatherFlash.

There are two key files that have settings and the rest of them don't need editing but are needed.
Open these two files and adjust the settings:
steelseriesVWSjson.php - Data handling
This is the file to load and display the VWS data files. IF you are not running the Saratoga template, you must configure these settings in this file.

scripts/gauges.js - Gauge creation
Settings include language, weather program - make sure weatherProgram is set to 2, folders and file names, what to display, etc.
Also you can change the gauge appearance under this comment  //Gauge global look'n'feel settings

Save the files after making changes.
Upload these three files to your main web folder where your web files are stored:
gauges-ss-basic.htm   gauges-ssT.htm   steelseriesVWSjson.php

Upload the complete folder named css with all of the files in it.
Upload the complete folder named scripts with all of the files in it.

The gauge should display on in gauges-ss-basic.htm !

Since VWS doesn't have the wind rose option, you should delete that gauge in the gauges-ss-basic.htm file.
The ReadMe.txt file describes what to remove and most of the VWS settings at this title - Virtual Weather Station (VWS) Users

Hello Curly,

YOU WROTE:

Save the files after making changes.
Upload these three files to your main web folder where your web files are stored: **TO VWS/C   OR UPLOAD TO MY WEBSITE ????**

gauges-ss-basic.htm   gauges-ssT.htm   steelseriesVWSjson.php **TO VWS/C   OR UPLOAD TO MY WEBSITE ????**

Upload the complete folder named css with all of the files in it.
**TO VWS/C   OR UPLOAD TO MY WEBSITE ????**
Upload the complete folder named scripts with all of the files in it.**TO VWS/C   OR UPLOAD TO MY WEBSITE ????**

The gauge should display on in gauges-ss-basic.htm !

As you can see Iám still confused.

Cheers Chris

ALL of those files extracted from the zip file go to the WEBSITE only.
Nothing goes into  VWS/C   or the folder on your home computer in the VWS folders.

I am making an attempt at creating the gauges on my website.

I am not using the Saratoga Templates. The weather flash files are uploading to my site in folder called "weather1". I uploaded all the extracted files to the same directory. When I load the page at http://www.scannorthcounty.net/weather1/gauges-ss-basic.htm I do not see the gauges. There is an error with the forecast line which I have not yet commented out. Are there other settings that I need to change. I have read through the instructions a number of times and am totally confused at this point. Looking for some direction on what I need to check or change in the programming. Thanks!!

Here is what I have done. Downloaded and extracted all the files. Changed and saved the following files

steelseriesVWSjson.php

Changes shown in red
// settings ------------------------------
$wflashDir = './weather1/';  // directory for the the wflash.txt and wflash2.txt files

Since your wflash.txt and wflash2.txt files are in the same directory as the steelseriesVWSjson.php script, you just have to have it say
Code: [Select]
$wflashDir = './';  // directory for the the wflash.txt and wflash2.txt files

You will also need to change this line in gauges.js file that resides in the scripts folder:
Code: [Select]
realTimeURL_VWS    : './weather1/', //*** VWS Users: Change to your location of the JSON script generator ***
Change it to this:
Code: [Select]
realTimeURL_VWS    : 'steelseriesVWSjson.php', //*** VWS Users: Change to your location of the JSON script generator ***
