Astrogenics still in business?
« on: April 17, 2015, 07:37:30 AM »
I purchased the Boltek/Nexstorm combo back in the fall. I am having some issues with the antenna (being replaced by Boltek) and the software (Nexstorm). I can't find any support forum at Astrogenics and my contacts for support have gone unanswered. I've also noticed there haven't been any product updates in 3 years. Is Astrogenics still in business today? They have a seriously cool product but it needs serious updating to get off the Java platform... Thoughts?

No idea on the business status of Astrogenics. There is another package from Aninoquisi, if you were not aware of it.

I would invite you to check out Blitzortung. We have a forum board here at http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=115.0. There is new hardware coming out sometime later this year. Blitzortung uses multiple stations to locate the lighting which is the most accurate method. (TOA/TOGA).

Check it out at http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=en and enjoy the show. We would welcome your participation. There are a bunch of us WxForum folks that are Blitzortungers.

Thanks. Right now those options are my plan b if I don't hear anything from Astrogenics. Curious though, I've not seen any standalone "Blitz-products" for example, something I can embed in my website. The L2000 system offers something like this as well as Nexstorm.

Ken of Saratoga Weather has been developing some new goodies.
I have a USA map, and one local map of the Michigan area that I made that plots Blitzortung data.

Ken's site is at: http://saratoga-weather.org/USA-lightning.php (his USA map is newer with more features than mine)

He has a regional map at: http://saratoga-weather.org/SWN-lightning.php

There are some PHP scripts from lightningmaps.org that participants can download and configure with the proper database support on your hosting server. Mine is at: http://www.rogerscityweather.com/myblitzortung/ with an addtional map at: http://rogerscityweather.com/lightning.php

Ive asked  twice to join strikelink...Takes time only to get a reply...Got an email back saying they would take care of me but, still no news.
Are blitz. users getting the same treatment ?

here are my thaughts about both...Strikelink system is way behind blitz. network (as i can see)
when visiting strikelinkUS map,a lot of stations are down or dead...A lot of them are still under the old java instead of using NGX that works without settins 72 permissons to access it.Why dont people switch to NGX or a script for their website to make it viewable for others ???

Im thinking nexstorm users are switching to blitz RED system.

Now Do i regret what ive bought (ive bought the pci kit used from a friend) ? well knowing what i know today and how thing goes, maybe i would go to the red system BUT no i do not regret it...even if  im not on a lightning network,i do have fun following the storms  ;)

They say theyre working on the network system...again,its gonna cost another 150$ or so to join with the equipment ...Thats a lot of money dont you think? i mean to be fully equipped with the boltek system.

How much does it cost WITH BLITZORTUNG RED SYSTEM,from start to the map...i mean to be on the blitz network ???

Boltek is really heavy on the wallet...First

the pci kit, nexstorm software, cvm map,...THEN if you want to publish on the net:NexstormNGX + another X amount for the new equipment available shortly (weeks or months)........

One thing...Ive been very well served with Astrogenik when i bought a second hand equipment...IF YOU CONSIDER BUYING FROM ANOTHER PERSON,there will be  a 25$ charge for the software license transfer.Things have been settled very fast =D>

Can a nexstorm/boltek user like me push its data to Blitzortung network ?
