USNO
« on: July 31, 2017, 07:06:59 PM »
Does anybody know what is going on with get-USNO-sunmoon.php? The script has been working very erratic lately. The only way I can get my website to work properly is to delete the file. However, all I get then is default times on my sun moon display on my website.

Is there a new script? Does someone have an alternative source that can be used?

Most frustrating.  ](*,)

I just renamed the get-USNO-sunmoon.php to get-USNO-sunmoon-temp.php and it fixed my problem with slow page loading

Thanks, my page loads fast now with get-USNO-sunmoon-temp.php, but all I get is 6:00PM on sunrise and sunset and NA on moonrise and set.

I went back to get-USNO-sunmoon.php and now it's all working again, but for how long?

Thanks, my page loads fast now with get-USNO-sunmoon-temp.php, but all I get is 6:00PM on sunrise and sunset and NA on moonrise and set.

I deemed having my website working to be more important than accuracy in the sun/moon times. Maybe I'll try it with the actual get-USNO-sunmoon.php again.

UPDATE: Still no good. I had to change it back to the -temp.php one since the slow load problem recurred.

YEP! Mine went back to working crappy again this morning. What I do is just delete the get-USNO-sunmoon.php file instead of re-titling it. Either way is fine.

Hope they get this straightened out soon.

After each experience with the flaky operation of a source of information tanking my home page load time (USNO, forecast, alerts, METAR), I've moved those functions to cron jobs and have the index page code simply read the cache file. I think USNO was the first one I did this with. That way, if it is slow or just craps out, it doesn't affect the page load time.

Working again. It's strange because aa.usno.navy.mil resolves, but usno.navy.mil doesn't. It could have been beyond just a DNS issue.

Don't think it is the DNS as silveracorn.nz/weather has been using the ip address;
$USNOUrl = "http://199.211.133.93/rstt/oneday?date=today&coords=$myLat,$myLong&tz=$myTZOffset";
since early April and the USNO outages have been the same as those experienced by others here.
