End of year history download. Can it be done?
« on: December 29, 2017, 11:40:39 AM »
Happy New Year!

I was going back to see if I could archive the year, and was hoping to do a reset on the 1st of Jan, along with some regular maintenance on the 5 in 1 while the snow is melted off of the roof.  I haven't tried before, but found that I can only go back one month on MyAcurite for download.  So I bopped over to WU.  There I could select the whole year, but it comes in a horrible format, in text.

Am I missing a way to download in an excel or table format?

The wunderground download should be in CSV.... the values are separated by commas.  Excel should have no problem with that.

Does anyone have an excel or similar template to plug the WU data into for graphing and data analysis?

I can use the download button, however it just opens another tab in my browser.  I cannot get it to trigger a download of a .cvs file to open with excel.
I also tried 3 ways from Sunday to cut and paste.  I can get the data into excel that way, but it is just in the same format.  Not actually "in" excel.  Cannot sort or anything.  I have tried Chrome, and Explorer both.  Below is a small sample, that you guys are probably already familiar with.  Bringing it into excel cut and paste style looks exactly the same.  No cells per coma or columns.  Tried as Text, HTML and unicode.  Didn't make any difference, other than font style.

You need to save the text in a text file.  There's nothing special about a CVS file other than the values are separated by commas.  Otherwise it's just plain old text.

You can change the .txt file extension to .cvs if you want Excel to run automatically.  (Assuming that's what your system is configured to run when opening a .cvs file.)

Otherwise, Excel should be able to import a .txt file and recognize the CVS formatting.

FWIW, it's a .csv file (comma separated values). I dunno if Excel would recognize it as a .cvs file.

Yep that made sense, so I tried that.  Cut and paste into Word, and saved it as a text file.  Then changed the extension from .txt to .cvs.  No luck.  Tried .xlsx.  No luck there either.

Excel brings it into the new workbook, but does not separate the values. Just one big line per day.  I will keep fussing with it after work.

I appreciate the help though, and if any other ideas pop up let me know and I will give it a shot.

Doh!

In my defense, I was getting ready to head out to the pharmacy.  #-o

That's the way to go..  Small adjustments but over all very nice.  Way better then doing 365 entries by hand.

Thanks for the help, as that link is just what I needed.  I would still be interested if anyone has some pre-built graphing formulas for excel.  I can probably figure out some, but by then it will be spring and I will have cabin fever and it will get put on the back shelf.

Thanks again.
