Mine also has 6 plates under the fan.

I've attached a cross section I created a couple years ago while cleaning mine.

Cool,

I did half wonder if all the air was meant to go thru the top plates whole,
didn't think it past that.

Great diagram.

I used 6 plates on my DFARS only because the bolts were long enough and I assumed the assembled view in the manual was hiding the 6th.

Thank you LWFX for the cross section. Your set up has a hole in the dish above the fan, mine hasn’t.  Though my DFARS appears to function OK, obviously would be better as your setup. Looks like my unit suffered from dodgy parts picking.

As an aside I was wondering if anyone else has seen degradation of the plastic on the VP2.  On the DFARS installed June 2012 the top 6 plates and top fan plate have remained pristine; shiny, brilliant white and no marks.  However the top 2 large dishes on the DFARS though white have gone mat and there are stains deep into in the plastic.  The SIM case and UV panel frame are in a similar state.  The anemometer transmitter casing is still shiny and no stains, however it’s no longer white but a light cream colour.

Edit

I should have said LFWX thank you for your cross section, apologies for dodgy typing

Yes. The top two "dishes" of my 24hr VP2 have a couple of small chunks broken off of them but the lower plates are completely unscathed. That being said, this is it's 11th year in the Arizona sun.
