GW-1000 PC Config Option
« on: May 16, 2019, 07:44:53 AM »
Just noticed that Ecowitt has posted a little app to run on a wifi connected PC to enable you to config your GW-1000
I suppose this is in case you don't have a smart phone to run the WS app.

I have not tried the app as my PC's are all Cat 5 networked.

If you download and unzip the file and then attempt to run the program you will see the following Windows notification that prevents you from running the program.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

What you need to do instead is to unblock the file before unzipping. To do this you right click and then select Properties. Then check the box to unblock. Then click OK. Now you can unzip as normal and run/install the program.

I haven't tested the program yet because I'm not home. But it looks like it will do just that and configure a new GW1000 without need of a smartphone or tablet. It does not seem like a replacement for WS View app on mobile as it looks like it won't do anything else. But you can use Noxplayer and run WS View it as it is an Android emulator.

You don't need to do all of that. Just click the 'more info' link and then click 'run anyway'

Yes you are correct and it works for this instance because there is only one item in the zip file. But it is bad practice to do this because often there are more items in the zip file. If you choose "more info" and then "Run anyway" when there are several items in the zip file you may run into trouble.  You could then tediously right click on every unzipped file and Unblock them before you attempt to run or install the program but that is a lot more work than just doing it before unzipping.

Link no longer working But I am looking for such a tool.
google chrome error   too many redirects
is this tool still valid for a GW1000 or has the tool been discontinued

Nevermind I found it under the manual/software tab  for the GW1000 @ Ecowitt webpage.

Sorry Ecowitt have rebuilt their website.

Try this link. It should give you the PC version of the config tool.
I have never used it but if I recall correctly it only allows for the configuration of the GW1000 to be setup for your Wifi and does not allow for any other config items which require the WSView app on a smartphone.

Yes that link works.
I ordered a GW1002 today so i'm collecting files in
preperation for initial  start up for I dont have a android or IOS
well not really true wife has a samsung galaxy 7 but I cant see myself squinting @ the tiny screen or fumbling the tiny buttons & getting it right in 1 go.
I'll likely get a Tablet for my main display for I got quoted from Lucy for a
HP2552 was $351USD including shipping & I paid $199.99 CAD for the GW 1002 on amazon.ca, by the time you convert the USD - CAD it's $230 CAD (wouldn't include any custom's charges)I realize that part of that is shipping from China to BC Canada but I just couldnt swallow that much just to include the display.

Unfortunately the app doesn't work for me. It can't connect.
I have unusual punctuation in my WiFi ID, I suspect that's the problem.

I tried to use that a year ago. It didn't work for me. I just gave up and used the WSView app.

I know , you don't have that ability, but it does make life a lot easier.

I also tried some time ago - but it wouldn't work (with a 2.4GHz only router).
Yesterday I tried again all types of variants - PC connected via LAN (standard connectivity) or to the WiFi router via WLAN ...
The result see below (of course all concerned devices in the same subnet  8-) )

No idea why this is so ...

Seems the problem has been resolved,My son bought me & D-inlaw dropped it off this AM.
brand new Samsung Galixy Tab A 2019.
so not only do I have to try & figure out the GW1002 kit but have to learn how to operate a tablet as well..lol
thnx for the info on the PC connect though I may still play with it after I get things working.
one thing I found very odd ,was when the new tablet was online with the router, I could no longer access the router via 192.168.... the login screen would appear but no password could be entered,Or with my Lan pc logged into the router as Admin & then tablet connected I could not edit any router settings it was as if it was locked out once the tablet came online power down the tablet & I could again make changes very strange behavior i thought.
I found this while I was trying to c/p the tablets mac address in case it was required later but no can do.
can the gw1002 be plugged into the usb port on my router, only for convineince no other reason or even a 120v -usb wall adapter?

I guess you mean the GW1000 console that comes with the GW1002 package.

It can be plugged in anywhere where it gets its power through its USB connector:
USB hub, PC, or a smartphone charger. Usually it's good to have some distance between the 120/240 V power source as there maybe some interference. Some of our users reported that.

Otherwise a long as it gets its juice, all is fine. You will have to see where you want to put the temperature/humidity sensors - that defines +/- the place where you put the GW1000. That sensor cable is not too long. And from that position you need to build the connection to a charger (hub, plug, ...), so often a USB cable is helpful. You can also plug it directly into a USB hub ... whatever is convenient. If your router meets the position requirements, you can plug it in there, no problem.
