Picture of southern lights from the ISS with the robotic arm. Cool picture. The astronauts have said that the southern lights have been the most spectacular any of them has seen on previous missions. This picture gives you are real idea of how the auroras work seeing them kind of floating on top of the atmosphere as if it were a screen for a movie. Pic here:

Very cool! 8-)
That is one heck of a view those astronauts have!

Since I will probably never get up there to see it in person I love watching NASA TV when there is a mission on and they show live downlink from the cameras on the Shuttle or ISS of the Earth. They usually do it while the astronauts are sleeping. I wish they did it all the time. I stay awake watching it. Closest I will ever get.

Yeah, I drive my kids (and wife) nuts during missions because I leave NASA TV on a LOT!
Between my weather equipment, scanners, and streaming online tech shows it's like Mission Control here some days!
Only wish DirecTV would offer NASA in HD. I'm still trying to figure that one out. I realize most likely it's a monetary
issue for them but some of the channels they have in HD...really? #-o JMHO

I wish ComCast out here would offer NASA TV in any D.

Now that's ComCastic!
Seriously though it's ridiculous that they don't offer it.
From the Nasa.gov website:
"NASA TV now has a full-time HD Channel available at no cost to cable and satellite service providers."
Guess they can't afford to give up a shopping channel slot! #-o

It is unforgiveable that anyone wouldn't carry NASA TV! My cable company carried it but it was on the digital package, which I did not have at the time. Wrote them several times saying I should not have to pay extra since my tax dollars fund it. Did not do any good but I now have the digital package and have NASA TV. Now I think HD should not be extra.

What an amazing picture. It's on my bucket list to see the Northern Lights from earth, I can't even imagine how wonderful it would be to see from space.
