I’m just curious to what Ambient Weather uses for their temp/hum sensors. I’ve heard that they use the Sensirion SHT-30 for the WS-2902A. If that’s correct, what do they use for their Falcon WS-8478A?

Yes SHT30 for the WS-2902-ARRAY used in the WS-2000, WS-2902A, WS-1550-IP and WS-1900.

Nobody knows what is in the Falcon WS-8478A as nobody cares and nobody buys it.
No but seriously...nobody buys it really.

In the last WU station analysis that I did (end of 2018) I found that in the US there were 9,363 combined WS-2902 and WS-2000 stations and only 94 WS-8478A stations...that is barely two per state or 1% of what the WS-2902A/WS-2000 sells and I think the WS-8478A was available first. No offense if you have a WS-8478A but I don't think that was a well informed decision. The pool sensor is the only reason I see people asking about the WS-8478A. But even still that doesn't seem to me like a good reason to get it. Get a separate pool sensor...or wait till Fine Offset comes out with more sensors which they are working on doing.

I don't recommend the WS-8478A even if it had a SHT31 that was better than what is in the WS-2902-ARRAY. It isn't the price that is the problem it is that it isn't a Fine Offset station and you don't get the advantage that comes with all the Ambient/Fine Offset stuff. Betamax was better but you couldn't rent movies. Better isn't always better if nobody else embraces it and develops supporting 3rd party hardware and software for it. There is no way I could do everything I do now with my Ambient station if I had a WS-8478A.

Gotcha. I was just checking them out and wasn’t planning on getting them. Thanks for the info!

Not sure about the humidity sensor, but I have had an WS-8478 up and running since January '19 and its been flawless.  With my Davis station I bought a mercury (not easy to get) sling psychrometer since I constantly had to adjust the humidity offset and I replaces the sensors in that station every year.  - Scott
