Much like the movie Independence Day...
Actually this cumulonimbus cloud was solid, top to bottom, and was about half height.
I then noticed the top start to rise and the bottom literal was left behind the huge "mother ship".
Normally you would just look at this and say it was virga and in a way it is as this rain/ice will never make it to the ground.
It is just the updraft was moving the majority of the cloud up faster than the rain could fall.
The updraft of "pod 1"to the the lift of the final three "pods" took about fifteen minutes.
