CWOP Update Frequency and Jagged Graphs?
« on: February 22, 2019, 01:17:48 PM »
I am seeing lines like this in my syslog file:

Feb 22 06:30:30 raspberrypi weewx[8705]: restx: CWOP: wait interval (300 < 600) has not passed for record 2019-02-22 06:30:00 PST (1550845800)

I am thinking that my server is trying to update more frequently than necessary, or it gets out of step with the timing interval.  However, I am getting some server connection timeouts too:

Feb 22 07:46:25 raspberrypi weewx[8705]: restx: CWOP: Exception <class 'socket.timeout'> (timed out) when looking for response to packet packet

Feb 22 07:46:25 raspberrypi weewx[8705]: restx: CWOP: Published record 2019-02-22 07:45:00 PST (1550850300)

I notice there are some chunks missing out of my 12hr graph -- could these issues be related to these entries in my syslog?

I am brand new to the system -- using WeeWx with a the packet sniffing (interceptor) wu-client module.

Thanks,
Chris Maness KQ6UP

I done told you to upgrade your GW1000 firmware from 1.3.0 to version 1.3.8 and you haven't done it! <shrug> <SMH>  :roll:

It might not be the source of the problem but it can't hurt to see what happens.

Looks like WeeWx is sending to CWOP every 10 minutes. You can actually increase it to every 5 minutes.

It does? As of when? I still see 1.3.0 reported on WU. I know WU takes till the beginning of the day to show new version.

When looking at your WU data and Ecowitt.net data there doesn't seem to be any missing data. But when looking at your CWOP Raw Data there are definitely missed data packets as the interval isn't consistent. It seems to mostly follow a 10 minute interval with some gaps. Maybe try setting WeeWx to upload to CWOP every 5 minutes as that is the fastest allowed by CWOP. I'm using 5 minutes uploads to CWOP with no issues as do many other people.

Did some Googling and it may be that you need to update restx on your Pi. This is an old link but seems to match up with your issue. Maybe the Pi is not up to date with every supporting part for WeeWx to run better. I believe WeeWx needs parts in the OS that are not really part of the WeeWx program.

I also just noticed in the link I posted that the person is also only sending Temperature and humidity. That sorta matches up with you as you don't have wind sensor. Or maybe just a coincidence.

The notifications look a little different in that thread.  It looks like stuff is crashing for them.  How do I upgrade restx?  It does not seem to be its own package.

Also, I will have wind data tonight.  It will be a temporary mount until next week when I can get the anemometer mounted at a better location (waiting for antenna mast hardware).

Thanks,
Chris Maness

I have no idea. But I think this is more of a WeeWx issue than a CWOP issue. So I would ask around in the various WeeWx forums.

Awesome! And to think you started only wanting temp/hum/pressure. And check you out now with a complete weather station. By the way you can add a display console to your station.

Also, I don't see where I can change the update rate for CWOP in the configuration file.

Chris

Code: [Select]
[StdRestful]
    [[CWOP]]
        enable = true
        station = CW1234
        passcode = XXX    # Replace with your passcode (APRS stations only)
        post_interval = 300

Change post_interval to 300 as that is in seconds. The default value is 600.

If you change CWOP post interval to 5 minutes (300 seconds) I would also add stale and change that to also be 300 as it seems it is not present and defaults to 600.

See documentation for explanation (had to stick hyperlink in code format because it was cutting off bracket ending that is needed):
Code: [Select]

Maybe some of the servers (round robin DNS) are tossing the data because there is no wind info.  I just saw a successful update, but it is not reflected on findu.

I guess we'll know soon enough when you get your anemometer up.

Nice. Wind up at 6:30AM. Now that is dedication.

I'm still seeing random updates of 5, 10, 15 or 20 minute intervals. Something is up with WeeWx.

Yep.  Not sure what it is.  I will post on the weewx subgroup when I get a chance.
