WeatherNation is likely coming to Dish Network, hopefully on April 20th.

I believe April 20th is also the date TWC's 10 year contract with Dish runs out. Could be interesting.  I'd like to see Dish carry both channels, but if I could pick only one, I'd pick WeatherNation. The channel that covers the weather, 24/7.

Thanks for the info.  Yes, it will be interesting.  They might as well dump TWC.  Every time I check to see what's on, they are always showing Prospectors, How Planes Crash, or some other non-weather garbage.

I like WeatherNation myself, but I have discovered that the on-demand feature on Roku is nice. I can go straight to "Upper Midwest" and get the regional segment without having to wait for it to come around on the normal video.

I have Dish at home and have not seen Weathernation yet since I don't have DirecTV. How is it different from TWC?

I have not seen WeatherNation on DirecTV or any of the over-the-air stations that carry them on one of their sub-channels, but I have seen them on-line (http://weathernationtv.com/on_tv/?play=1) many times.

They are very professional in their presentation of the weather (in my opinion} and they stick to the weather 24/7. No reality programs as I understand it.

The Weather Channel started out like that, then NBC/Comcast came along.

Someone told me that Al Roker was actually the only person that presented weather on there that was not actually certified. Anybody have any idea if that speculation is true? Sure would be ironic  #-o

On NBC?  On TWC?  I don't know.  If you look at his Wikipedia page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Roker

it says he has a BA in communications.  It doesn't say anything about him having a weather-related degree.  Although it does mention an expired AMS number (although I think you can probably buy one of those).  Form your own opinion, I suppose.   :-k

Well, today is the 20th and TWC is still there and no sign of Weathernation.  So, maybe that was just a rumor?

^ Yep, I just turned it on and it is there.  So now we have a choice, weather all the time or weather part of the time.  Hmmmm....  Maybe TWC will finally wake up and see that they are not the only game in town.

I like WN it shows my city on the forecast maps.  =D> They seem all business from what I can tell in my limited viewing. The way Dish Network loves to have disputes, wouldn't be surprised if TWC isn't gone when contract renews.

New one signed today.

Don't get too comfy with WN.

So it was a leverage move for new contract with TWC.
Off topic but I can't stand Dish, Charlie or the Hopper. There, got it off my chest.

Well, I'm impressed so far.  They even spent a whole segment on West Coast weather.  TWC doesn't seem to think anything exists west of the Rockies.

I don't think Dish Network or any other provider loves disputes.  Any company that deals with outside suppliers has a contracts/licensing department and that is part of their job, negotiating contracts.  It's just a fact of life.  For satellite/cable providers, whenever contracts are about to expire, the channel owners always want to double the carriage fees which causes the provider to pay more and we end up paying more.  Dish Network always fights for the lowest rate, as well they should.

That's the reputation they want. I won't get into it here but if separate thread gets started I'll discuss it.
