Microsoft wants people to stop using IE6
« on: March 07, 2011, 12:49:45 PM »
Microsoft is encouraging people to STOP using IE6 citing the number of security holes and a lack of modern web standards in that version.

It's now 10 years old and time for people to move on; so Microsoft is on an active campaign to encourage people to upgrade to newer browsers (of course, in doing so they'll also likely encourage people to 'try' other browsers ;-) ).

They've set up a web site to monitor the drop in IE6 use http://www.theie6countdown.com/

oh yeah.....and IE9 is out soon!

IE 9 has already been released as the real version.

PTL!  Maybe my company will finally let me upgrade it on my ancient laptop, like they have IE8 on all of the newer stuff.  Then I can do modern things like, I don't know, EVERYTHING!  In our weekly CAT updates, there is still an occasional IE6 patch, so I know they are trying to run it into the ground, which seems to be rapidly approaching!

Irony is ironic.  India is #2 on the list, with over 12% IE6 use.  Is that what the MS tech support centers are running?

I got that MS memo about 4 years ago.  Been using FF and Opera since.  :)
