phone app for personal weather station data
« on: October 01, 2014, 08:48:48 AM »
Is there an iPhone or Android weather app that is connected to a personal weather station?  I send my station data to Weather Underground, CWOP, PWS and Weatherbug.

I just downloaded Sunny Day and Pocket PWS and I can't figure out how to connect either of them to my weather underground data.

Pocket PWS asked for an XML link and I entered this, but it didn't work with Pocket PWS:
http://api.wunderground.com/api/cb0578a32efb0c50/conditions/q/pws:KVTWESTD3.xml

Sunny Day says it can connect to:
yahoo, weatherlink.com or Davis Vantage Pro2.  But I don't see how to connect it to Weather Underground or any of the other services I'm uploading too.

Scott216,

RE: Pocket PWS, Sorry, this app takes data from YOUR personal weather site, which apparently you don't have. My fault. Perhaps you could set up a "free" site, add Cumulus to your Weather programs and then use it.

You're right, I don't have my own personal weather station site or software.  Just to be clear, there is no PC involved in any of this, I have no weather software running.  My weather data is sent to weather underground and others via a "little black box", no PC involved in the process.  So I'm looking for an app what will connect to Weather Underground and get the data from there (or one of the others I upload too).

I have the weatherbug app and don't see anything for personal data.  It looks like the CWOP app will show my data, but looking at the screen shots, this app looks pretty lame.

Whatever you upload to WU you can get via https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wunderground.android.weather&hl=en  Sunny Day actually reads  your Davis file on the net which you do not have apparently.  Out of curiosity what are you using to upload to WU?

I have the WU Android app.  From what I can tell I have to go to the map and choose my weather station from there.  I'd prefer to have a list of saved locations where my weather station is one of them.  My weather station is at my ski house in VT, so it's not normally the same as my current location.

To upload the data I'm using this:
http://www.wunderground.com/wximage/hautewind/1
Hautespot doesn't make it any more, plus it was a bit pricy.  I've made my own device to upload the data, but it's still being tested.  You can read about it here:

Nope!  My WU Android app has my personal station saved as the first choice and when I open WU Android it comes up.  No entering nothing.  Of course it does not give me inside temps etc.  Just the stuff uploaded to WU.

What do you mean by the first choice?  I don't even see where I can have more then one choice.  In the settings I can tell it to use my current location, or I can choose a particular city.  I don't see where I can have multiple locations.  I am a WU member and I did login to the app.  I was hoping that would change things, but it didn't.

That looks NOTHING like my app!  And excuse my ignorance but I have not got a clue how to grab a screen shot of my device.  I can tell you the start icon says WUBeta and that is it.  No idea bout build etc.  And it works perfectly - always opens to my home station (Acurite feeding WU via Meteobridge).  And I can pick any other WU station with a click or two.

Surprised nobody mentioned Weather Station. It's a $1.16 but worth it in my opinion. Takes your data from WU and displays it like the VP console. Mucho customizable.

That's strange.  The app I have is the one you linked to earlier:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wunderground.android.weather&hl=en

I don't know what version it is.  My icon does not say beta.

You take Android screenshots by holding the volume down button and power button at the same time.  Hold for about a second.

I just downloaded weather station.  I like it!  I can even get my PWS station.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Not being a Apple/Android fan, we won't get into it here, is there an app for Win8 based phones like weather Station to show your own VP2 console? Looks very nice.
