How is data used?
« on: April 23, 2015, 10:21:32 AM »
So I stumbled across Blitzortung this week and was amazed how the technology works.
I was just wondering who uses the data that comes out of it.

Volunteered data for weather seems to help initiatives like COCORAHs and MADIS, but do real weather agencies use the Blitzortung data?

Currently the data is only used "internally" by its members and the makes of Blitzortung.

The public can access live data only by the Blitzortung.org and Lightningmaps.org sites.  The data is not currently "sold" for agencies or media.
