VPLive and Davis Vue console question
« on: March 08, 2015, 12:23:49 PM »
OK, I finally installed VPLive as it will allow me to upload to CWOP as well as WU and get around this altimeter setting nightmare. Should the barometric reduction setting on my Davis Vue console be set to NOAA or none? I've got it set to NOAA or SLP and I'm assuming that is correct though it doesn't hurt to make sure. Thanks.

Never mind. When I initially set up VPLive, it uploaded data to CWOP every ten minutes. Then it alternated between 10 and 20 minutes. And once it was 25 minutes. I unchecked the "download CWOP servers" and used the ServersCWOP.txt file and still no go. I give... went back to Weatherlink with the alt option for the barometric reduction setting. At least it uploads every ten minutes reliably.

The problem is here   read this    vplive will work if you do it right.    You must revert to the old version.    steve hard coded the server into the latest version and they are no longer valid.

Thanks. I downloaded and set up the older version and made the correction to the server file. I'm just not sure if I want to go through all the nonsense again to change software and readjust the barometer setting for the nth time.  ](*,)

OK, here's what I did. I noticed that the older version didn't allow updates to WU. That doesn't work for me. So I reinstalled the latest version of VPLive. I deleted ServersArps.txt, added ArpsServers.txt and then for both ServersCwop.txt and ArpsServers.txt I replaced the servers listed with what is found below:

cwop1.aprs.net,14580
cwop3.aprs.net,14580
cwop5.aprs.net,14580

And I keep the "automatically download CWOP servers list" unchecked. So far it works like a charm. :)

My arpsDiagnostic.txt file indicates:

trying cwop1.aprs.net:14580...connected
   (250 msecs) sending callsign->user DW4847 pass -1 vers vplive 1.2.3
   (250 msecs) sending data->DW4847>APRS,TCPXX*:@091837z4215.55N/07307.93W_312/002g011t041r001P003p003h50b10198VL1252
   successful data send

So it seems the latest version of VPLive is not hard coded to use all five of the servers on a random basis.

Another observation. Removing ServersArps.txt and adding ArpsServers.txt did nothing. The modified ServersCwop.txt is what is required to get version 1.2.5.27 to function correctly as someone else has pointed out. But!!!!!!!!... you must never check the box in the CWOP/ARPS settings to "automatically download servers list". Even if you uncheck it the program from that point forward will upload data to cwop.aprs.net,14580 and unfortunately it seems server 2 and 4 will come up occasionally and the upload will be rejected. What is strange is that ServersCwop.txt never gets modified when the "automatically download" box is checked. Yet the program seems to ignore that file from that point forward. The only fix that I found is to re-install the program.
