Serial or TCP/IP on VVP
« on: July 31, 2014, 11:27:00 AM »
Which is more stable? If I have a choice.

I got an updated computer yesterday
Installed everything  WL, WD, WDL, VVP, Startwatch, N8VBvCom Driver

I could not get VVP to create/connect Virtual Serial ports. So WL would not connect to a virtual SERIAL port.

But I did get it to connect to TCP/IP ports along with WD.

Can't figure it out.  But does it matter? Is TCP/IP more or less stable than Virtual Serial?

Or is there another solution.

I know Tinplate had issues, but I wish there were more updates for Startwatch, VVP.

On the good side, I posted a while ago about the UPS not keeping the computer on during blips.
I installed the new computer, unplugged the UPS and the computer kept running.  To me that means that the power supply in the computer was faulty.

It does not make any difference they both work fine.   I suspect if it is not connecting thru com ports that you have them setup wrong.

But if you don't need more than 4   just use TCP  I actually prefer using the TCP connects.  You don't run into the busy com port problem when some programs don't close them properly.

all good to know.

I was thinking there may be an issue with the N8V driver.

But, it seems to be working fine. And I only need two ports right now.

As my dad would always say  "Just leave well enough alone"
