Topic: New Weather Underground beta for Android

There is a totally new Weather Underground beta App for Android available.

Current Beta version: 6.0.0 (November 13, 2019)

I do miss the following:
-   The Wundermap showing all the Personal Weather Stations
-   Crowd Report icon and crowd reports showing on the map
-   Cloud coverage graph
-   Option to Arrange and Edit Tiles
-   Customizable widgets
-   Remove ads by existing Wunderground login

Why not keep the old design and functions? I really liked them.


If you want to try the beta version you have to click the "Join the beta" in the Google Play store.

Open the Google Play Store app.
Find (search for) the Weather Underground app and tap it to go to the app detail page.
Look to see if the app detail page mentions a beta version (Join the beta). Make sure you scroll down as this information is a bit further down the page.
Tap Join and then Join on the pop-up.

Hmmm I noticed a few differences...

- Precipitation accumulated changed from daily to 24 hour.
- Forecast changed from 5 day to 3 day

It doesn't look like it does decimals?

You can scroll left and get the rest of the 10-day forecast. No decimals.

It is obvious, with such a small screen decimals take up too much room, but the colors, and no spiders. It's a beta....... sigh

For anyone testing the new Android WU beta app, Are you able to compare this new app to the iOS Wunderstation app if you also have an iOS device? I'm curious to know if the new Android app bridges the gap. There has never existed an Android Wunderstation app although one was promised ages ago. Perhaps with the new Android app if it has everything Wunderstation for iOS has then it is a mute point.

Skip the beta. It's missing a ton of the old features. Not worth the hassle.

No status bar temperature, still doesn't refresh upon chosen frequency (1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, upon screen unlock, etc.), no ability to get rid of ads via sign-in.

The non-beta used to refresh at chosen intervals in the settings. I used to do at screen unlock because I do that frequently and I always like to have updated data from my home station. It stopped working in April and has not been fixed since (even though we have been told they are working on it).

I'm not part of the beta but I do see this new version. Noticed that they removed the free Smart Forecasts feature and have locked it behind a monthly/yearly subscription. I've also noticed there's no way to log in to use your ad-free subscription even though they are still happy to collect existing ones via the Play Store.

Note that I use a DNS based adblock, so I see placeholder ads instead of real ads.

Yeah, I won't pay for the app. I give them data and I go to great lengths to make sure I can be as accurate as possible for the general public.

Scroll to the bottom of App page to join the Beta. Took 10 or 15 minutes for me to show joined.

My bad. I didn't know it was the actual WU app. I thought it was a 3rd party app.
Will give it a try.
