Canon Rebel 350D as webcam
« on: November 10, 2007, 06:35:33 PM »
I bought a Toshiba IK WB11A webcam and am not satisfied with the sharpness so I have been reviewing the software available to make my Canon work. Have any of you used either pinetreecomputing.com or breezesys.com software? pinetree uses mostly Olympus cameras but the Canon should work too. Any advice will be helpful. I don't mind buying an Olympus off ebay if that's the best solution but I already have the Canon. Thanks,
al
btw the Davis VP Pro2 works great. On the site soon.

Well... that's an interesting idea, although it looks as if that software was developed more with non-SLR cameras in mind. I briefly looked at both those packages...

With an SLR you'll need a shutter actuation for each image... no live view (except for the new Canon 40D, and the soon to come Nikon d300, and maybe a few other lesser known models...).

So does that mean you've replaced your 350D? I've got the original Digital Rebel, and think I'm going to get the 40D soon...

I replaced the 350D with the XTi and love it. Much faster. You are right about the SLR shutter so maybe I need to get an old Olympus 4000 or 5050. The 4000's are about $75 on ebay. Thanks
