Sorry, but I just cannot resist asking... why do you want to use an outdated, no longer supported, insecure and obviously problematic browser when there are many free and much better and secure alternatives?

Not everyone want to use stuff that is not shipped with their OS

WIN7 IS still supported (sort of for now).

ie11 IS still supported and updated, not only in Win7 but also in Win10

OK, but even Microsoft admitted it is now outdated and recommends using Edge (which I know is a problem when using Win7). But if I were using Win7 I would just install any other (Chrome, FF, Opera, Vivaldi, you name it), which are all based on similar engines (if not the same), and have much better support of everything. IE11 is also quite problematic due to the way it handles (or does not support) certain CSS3 commands.

Im not saying people should not use it, but in a situation where it is not even working correctly, I dont really see any advantage of it whatsoever given there are these much better and newer free alternatives.

If someone doesnt like Google (which would seem strange though because Microsoft isnt any better in terms of using your data, probably even worse), then you can use many other free ones - eg. Opera, which even has VPN built-in if you care a lot about security.

what version of IE11 are you using?
I am running Win7 with IE11 version 11.0.9600.18638 update 11.0.41 and have no issues.

How does that improve a browser's security? This is used to create a secure tunnel and used most often by employees to connect to their corporate backbone

Edge, let me just say this is another MS creation where they think they know what the users want.

There are free and paid anonymous VPN services out there, which people who are privacy-conscious, frequent users of public wifi hotspots, or are video/music pirates use to mask their true IP address/location.  More popular overseas, where people use it to watch geo-locked USA Netflix content that they were locked out of in their own countries.  There are bundled packages for most smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers to simplify the setup.  Don't know why anyone would want to use a web browser VPN for privacy, since their DNS requests would probably still be going out unencrypted directly from the operating system to give away the site(s) they are viewing.....

Attached is the version that I am running. This only started about 2 days ago after an update happened. I have not done a system restore at this point.

Jáchym, it is still supported. I was asking for help with 1 issue after an update, not for a recommendation for other browsers. If I wanted another browser, I would download one. I like IE, and have been using it since it started from back in the day.

I'll spin up a VM Win7 and play with that and see if I can find something. Don't want to break my working computer.

I'll post back if I find some setting or fix.

Good luck.

ALITTLEweird1, sorry, I could not simulate your problem.
I created a WIN 7 environment, and patch it with all the latest OS and IE patches. I was still able to browse to any HTTP site with no problems. I deliberately went to sites I have never been to just to be sure.
I even changed IE security settings to the max as well as turn on parental control.  :-)

One question-- Have you looked at your host file to see if there are any strange entries? Typically there should only be this one:-
127.0.0.1       localhost

I got these...

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#   127.0.0.1       localhost
#   ::1             localhost

What you have in hosts is correct.

Sorry, I am out of ideas, maybe someone else have better ones.

I will continue to looks and also talk to the other IT people at work tomorrow and see if they have inputs.

OK, this is a real off the wall idea.
Check your firewall and see if port 80  is still open
NORMALLY HTTP use port 80 and HTTPS port 443

You can also use a port scanner to find open ports.

This how you can check if port 80 works on your computer

Open command prompt.
Then type this command:- telnet www.google.com 80
You will not receive and data back, just a line as in the  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] attachment

Then type this line : GET /index.htm HTTP/1.1 and press enter twice.
If you get this, your port 80 is working

Which screen, the command prompt? On Win 7, click the Start button, then in the "Search programs and files box" type CMD and press enter.

The command prompt is fine, but the screen that you say.."Then type this line : GET /index.htm HTTP/1.1 and press enter twice.
If you get this, your port 80 is working"

Doesn't open.

I assume you are getting the underscore, where you type the GET command.
If that is the case it might mean nothing is coming back to you. Almost like port 80 is blocked somewhere along the line.

Does your internet router at home have a web configuration? Try opening that. If you can than the problem is further on.

Ok... So I have 2 routers in series. First one in series is a wifi tplink router, the second is a non-wifi Linksys router. I have the connection from the tplink to the lynksys plugged into port #1, not the incoming internet port on the router, and another pc plugged into port #2 on the Linksys.

When I type in 192.168.1.1 on the pc connected to the tplink wifi router, it brings up the Lynksys router page. That seems strange to me since its not directly connected to that router.

Well, that is great if you can bring up the HTTP webpage. That means the problem is not on you computer but further down the line. I would now start eliminating anything between the computer and your ISP router going to the internet.
