Title: Where are the scripts?
Post by: saratogaWX on October 01, 2007, 05:00:47 PM
By request, this new forum has been created for discussions about building dynamic weather websites with PHP and/or AJAX/JavaScript functionality.

So.. where can you get free scripts?

Here's a list (and I'll try to keep this current -- post additional suggestions in this thread).

These folks have offered free PHP scripts:

Anole formerly of anolecomputer.com (now available here (https://saratoga-weather.org/scripts-legacy.php#anole)
    * WXGraphic : the quintessential weather banner/avatar script
    * NHCfeedparser : National Hurricane Center RSS feed display

Carterlake at http://www.carterlake.org/weatherphp.php

    * PHP custom tags - This simple script powers CarterLake.org!
    * PHP Weather Underground Radar Text
    * PHP NOAA Advisory
    * Radar Resize with Cache & Second Version - Resizes our radar image, includes caching and "Radar Down" text in image.

    * Simple Radar Resize - Simple code for resizing radar image on the fly.

    * TRACreportshort: takes Nexstorm's full TRACreport and shortens it to a more managable size for displaying.

    * TRAC Graphic - A web based add-on to Nexstorm's TRAC Report, the TRAC Graphic takes the location of storm cells in the report and maps them to a graphic for display on a website. This was a joint project by myself and Jozef in Belgium (joske-online.be). The script is featured on Astrogenic's website!

    * PHP client graphs - These are US versions of graphs by Jozef in Belgium (joske-online.be), derived from Kevin's work at TNET Weather. These graphs require the installation of JP Graph. The graphs require Weather Display and the clientraw feature.

    * Rotating wind arrow - This is a proof of concept idea from code developed by Ben Summers.

    * METAR Temps on Radar - Demo This takes data from a list of METARs and outputs a GRLevelx placefile of data..

Unless I'm blind, you missed the only script I use, aside from the USGS Earthquake script.

Under CarterLake:

NOAA Advisories (http://www.carterlake.org/testadvisory.php.txt)

Displays current advisories, watches, warnings, etc. for your local area configurable by FIPS codes and zones.

I'm missing a link to Jim's GR3animation script and SLOweather's Fireweather (CBI) image script...

http://jcweather.us/animategr3.zip is a php script that will create an animated .gif using a sequence of input files. I use it to make a small gr3 product but is can easily be modified to handle other requirements.

Hi Jim, and thanks for the link. I couldn't find a specific location on the page you'd cited with a download link -- would you mind creating/modifying a page to have the links to your scripts, and I'll add you to the first posting in the thread.

I did add Jim's (from Juneau County Weather) new scripts page to the list on the first posting.

It's really nice to see more folks creating great weather website scripts and sharing with their fellow weather enthusiasts!

Best regards,
Ken

p.s. please pardon the delay in doing the update Jim.. the cruise and now the flu have slowed my responses a bit.

Hey all! You all are great, and have done a wonderful job of inspiring me to share back some of the unique scripts I've written. So yesterday, I started my own scripts page at www.castlerockweather.org/scripts.php (http://www.castlerockweather.org/scripts.php). These are original scripts that I wrote to make my own site more manageable.

At this point I've only had a chance to cleanup/release 2 small pieces of PHP code, but I have a bunch more to yet release. Let me know what your think. Please feel free to use these scripts on your websites.

If you make modification or see errors, please contact me via email or PM. I'll be sure to rev the code and make available to all.

Thanks,
Shawn

Ken,

I was looking through your list of scripts and found the following link to be inactive. Clicking on the link shows the domain to be for sale...

Mike of Long Beach, WA (http://www.carmosaic.com/weather/scripts.php (http://www.carmosaic.com/weather/scripts.php)) has a new Scripts section with:

    * PHP Multifunction Image Handler

    * Style Sheet generator/modifier for Carterlake/AJAX/PHP script template set
    * Theme Selector plugin for Carterlake/AJAX/PHP script template set

Found another one:

Jim at Esperanza Weather Center ,Lexington Park, Maryland (http://espwxctr.com/wxscripts.shtml (http://espwxctr.com/wxscripts.shtml))

  * UPPER AIR SOUNDING AND RAPID UPDATE CYCLE (RUC2) SCRIPTS
This script retrieves and diplays the latest Upper Air Sounding report and RUC2 runs. This script can be configured for
     various station IDs.

  * TROPICAL HIGH-DENSITY OBSERVATION REPORT
This script displays the latest HIGH DENSITY OBSERVATION reports. These reports are derived from US Air Force
reconnaissance flights into tropical storms and hurricanes.

  * TROPICAL VORTEX REPORT

Hey Ken you can add my script for L2k display :)

It can work without the templates or with the templates.

It displays Lightning 2000's Data and Lightning Maps and Graphs it.
Lists the current storms, severity, CG % and IC% and other data.

Lightning Data is AJAX driven so it automatically updates as well as the Lightning Map(s).

Scripts for additional addon pages for Ken's template set are available at:
http://weather.wildwoodnaturist.com/downloads.php for Weather Display users and
http://weather.wildwoodnaturist.com/downloadsCVW.php for Cumulus, VWS, and Weatherlink users.

The scripts will produce reports showing Daily Records and Detail/Summary Reports based on the NOAA reports the user has uploaded to their website.
JPGraphs can also be created for the temperature, rain, and wind data in the NOAA reports.

I tried the script by Ken "Recent nearby earthquakes (from USGS, NRC, BGS) PHP", really nice, well built and useful.
However, the database from which it takes the data does not have much information about earthquakes Italian, so I can not use it.
The Italian site more informed about earthquakes is this: http://iside.rm.ingv.it/iside/standard/index.jsp?lang=en.
The webmaster says their database is public, and citing the source, you can extract the data.
It would be possible to adapt the script of Ken to make him take the data from this site?
Thanks and best regards to all

I am trying to use the Murry Conarroe 'NOAA Reports' scripts but am at a blank. I have edited the wxnoaarecords.php and wxreport-settings.php, and uploaded all files to the root. I was not able to find which file to run so added some in 'NOAA Reports' but get only a blank www.komokaweather.ca (http://www.komokaweather.ca) I have obviously missed a key part. But what?

There are threads specific to the Daily Records script at http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=14081.msg137471#msg137471
and the Detail/Summary scripts at http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=14077.msg137449#msg137449

I am more likely to see postings about those scripts there.

Try changing the path to the NOAA reports in the settings section of the wxnoaarecords.php
from
Code: [Select]
$path_dailynoaa = "./weather/reports/"; # path to NOAA reports
to

Code: [Select]
$path_dailynoaa = "weather/reports/"; # path to NOAA reports

Thanks Murry for getting back. I now have changed to "weather/...." and also tried as ".weather/...." and "/weather/...." but no success. Just to make sure I have understood correctly, that path would be for the NOAA files that are in my the Cumulus www.komokaweather.com/weather/reports/ folder in NOAAMO1212.txt and NOAAYR2012.txt format?

The wxnoaaclimatereports.php are in www.komokaweather.com root

I had edited wxnoaarecords-include.php line 13 from $wxsoftware = 'WD' to 'CU' but that did not make a difference.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help,
Paul

EDIT
p.s. I will use the mentioned specific threads in future (should have done that for this reply - sorry)

An alternative 3in1 script.

An alternative WXSIM script is available for stand-alone use, for use in an iframe, or for use with the Saratoga template. This script was developed for the Leuven template set. The past three months it has been tested on a dozen websites in Europe and now available for download.

Demo:
Compact version: http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/wsWxsimSA/startSmall.php?lang=en (http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/wsWxsimSA/startSmall.php?lang=en)
Extended version: http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/wsWxsimSA/startDemo.php?lang=en (http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/wsWxsimSA/startDemo.php?lang=en)
Saratoga template: http://wiri.be/saratoga/wxleuven.php?p=forecastp (http://wiri.be/saratoga/wxleuven.php?p=forecast)
Leuven template: http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=wsWxsimPrintFull&lang=nl (http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=wsWxsimPrintFull&lang=nl)

EDIT: removed outdated link http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=12&lang=en (http://www.weerstation-wilsele.be/index.php?p=12&lang=en)

The above links use exactly the same scripts. One can set the different output parts, language, units of measurement and so on by a settings file.

To see the demo in a different language you can add the parameter ?lang=nl fr de or en to the link
Language support files are included in the download for: english dutch french and german.
The language files have the same structure as the Saratoga ones, so more languages can be easily added.

An alternative 3in1 script.

An alternative WXSIM script is available for stand-alone use, for use in an iframe, or for use with the Saratoga template. This script was developed for the Leuven template set. The past three months it has been tested on a dozen websites in Europe and now available for download.

Hi Wim

I write with the purpose to recognize you the great great great work you did with this script. =D> I have just installed your script and I must recognize that works very nice. My next step is to translate the language into Spanish, but this is not gonna be a problem ... I think \:D/

Like many of us, he had to change servers when e-rice went down. I suspect that script may have not made the move?

Here's what I think you wanted (from 2006)

I have recently rewritten my NWS Alerts script that I use for my personal weather site and news pages. It now uses the NWS API as the data source. It is a fairly efficient small PHP script that produces nice html output suitable for direct display or JavaScript and also includes an "alerter" that can be used to detect active alerts and communicate with JS variables.

I have decided to make this code public for anyone who might find it useful.

You can find it at: https://mresoftware.com/NWS_alert_reader.htm

Enjoy!

Appreciate it but nope... "Relayweather scripts
Michael Holden (mth) of relayweather.com wrote several popular scripts. He discontinued his script distribution and weather website"

So was wondering if anyone had them somewhere.

His scripts are listed just below that sentence, including the links to the zips

=> World Weather 24 Hour Extremes Menubar Gadget

Ken has all the legacy scripts there to download.

Hello ken,

is there a way where you can script this and put it on the list of quakes? EMSC is somewhat faster in terms of earthquake updates? it is on php, I wonder if can be included on your quake scripts from http://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/Map/earth/kml.php

I use this script for the thermometer on my Saratoga site.
# BASHEWA.COM VERSION HISTORY: (by Rainer Finkeldeh) #
# --- Versiom 1.08 - 09-Jan-2010 - re-added show current temperature on bulb. #
# added option to show UOM on bulb. #

Is there a later version? BTW this one works perfectly.

It's built-in to the Saratoga template set. You can install the script set for standalone use from https://github.com/ktrue/nws-alerts

I guess I’m not understanding how he got the low level map. All I can get it to display is the nationwide map
Title: Re: Where are the scripts?
Post by: saratogaWX on March 12, 2024, 10:41:25 AM
It looks like they are creating that map by a custom image processing script on that site. The 'stock' nws-alerts page displays a OpenStreetMap map of any alert that includes warning polygons, but otherwise does not automatically display a map. I suggest you ask them via their contact page how that map is generated.

I’m running my site on a dedicated raspberry pi 5, so unfortunately an x86 program isn’t an option. Thanks anyways.

On another note, I cannot get https://ballcock.us/thermometer.php working.

Before anyone asks, I’ve owned that domain for a while, and the name is part of a toilet. It rolls off the tongue a little better than vaughnsville weather. ;)

The thermometer.php doesn't display due to embedded tab character (x09) in front of the image generated.
That tab character is before the <?php at the start of Settings.php -- delete that so the <?php is the first set of characters in the file then the thermometer should display correctly.

Also.. your site is having problems finding clientraw.txt in your home directory .. did you set weewx realtime to upload clientraw.txt to your document root (if not, you need to do so). Having Settings-weather.php with
Quote
$SITE['clientrawfile'] = '../clientraw.txt'; // directory and name of clientraw.txt file
won't work -- you can't reference files via the web access that are in directories above your document root. It needs to be
Quote
$SITE['clientrawfile'] = './clientraw.txt'; // directory and name of clientraw.txt file
to work correctly (and have weewx realtime upload the file to the document root).
