Weather Presentation Software?
« on: July 26, 2010, 12:03:20 AM »
Maybe I'm just not searching for the correct thing.  I've been browsing these forums for hours, and many other sites for months looking for software or some kind of appliance that gives you what you see watching your local weather.  Is it just some poor guy with powerpoint in the back making his own stuff?   Our town has no local weather and I have been using GRLevel3 and GR2Analyst for images but even that seems like a long way from a sweet weather channel-like presentation.

did you mean like sat pictures and rain radars
or current conditions from an electronic weather station?

The free package can be installed on your own server and made to look like your web site with a couple template modifications.  It will display radar, satellite, local forecasts, current conditions, hourly forecasts, watches, warnings and information from your own personal weather station (if you have one).  If you want the custom branded stuff there is a cost.

Wow yes, hamweather /Weatherstream looks perfect.  Wish they listed prices though.  Thank you very much!

Found some prices, not too bad... the problem with most of these is our local area ICAO  KBWD has no data or radar, the closest is 90 miles away at KSJT (San Angelo) and Dyers AFB (Abilene) which goes down constantly.  Argh!

The wxnation stuff looks great for putting out my own internet channel/web site, but not sure if it would be able to get any more detailed local data.

The Barons thing looks scary-expensive.

For current weather conditions you can use your own weather station's data in HAMweather.  It also can display other nearby personal weather stations (if they give you permission) and data from RAWS stations (if there are any around you).

Not much can be done about the radars, unless you have a few tens of thousands of dollars to install your own.

I wish the closest radar was only 90 miles away.  Mine is 130 miles away.  Oh well, I love where I live.
