I must be heavily cached somewhere. I'l cleared my browser cache, deleted the IOD cache file on the server, and I still have the little square box. When I run the file like you suggested, it works fine. So it must be somewhere (Comcast probably) that has something cached still. Plus it's all four browsers that I can try. I'll check it later and see.

This happens a lot, when I make changes to a page, often I can't see the change for a while.

I think it's in the header of your iod.php page .. you have

Code: [Select]

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><!-- <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> -->

If you change it to

Code: [Select]

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />it should display correctly. It does display correctly if you select ISO-8859-1(Western) character set to display the page in your browser.

Well, the http://www.nnvl.noaa.gov/imageoftheday.php is still showing the 13-Aug-2010 image, so maybe 'Image Of The Day' is a bit of a misnomer .. it seems to be the 'Image Of The Whenever-We-Get-Around-To-Posting-A-New-One'

The old NOAA IOD did not display a new image on Saturdays & Sundays, only Monday through Friday. I think the same might be true for the new IOD web site.

Ken, you did an exceptional job on the new script. Now we have IOD-HD (high def)....

Actually I had never incorporated this particular item into my site until you wrote the new script
so evidently like Danny said they weren't too keen on weekend updating before the change either
so why change LOL!!

Looks like they have changed the imagery somehow and it's playing havoc with the scripts. Getting a bunch of errors on mine and seeing the same on Ken's page. Maybe after Danielle they'll get back to normal

It's a video instead of an image! Nice one though! Maybe that's an easy fix. I did notice the little icon on the lower left corner is missing too.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
Nice video loop though.. Haven't decided whether to modify or just leave it as is and see if the regularly scheduled programming returns LOL!

Grrr... but, I've revved the script to V1.03 to resize the high-resolution .PNG file instead of trying to process the movie (MP4) links.

Looks nice Steve. For the proper proportion of your over sized image:
You might want it to be - 860px x 484px instead of 860px × 470px

I know, I know, I'm real anal.. I just happened to notice when I considered resizing mine, but I already had a oversized page...

You know what, when I copied Ken's script over mine I kept repeating the dimensions over and over in my head. When I went to type them back in I KNEW I had it wrong. Man, my mind is going!

Mark,
It may be that the very large PNG used with today's image (1,920px × 1,080px, 1.8MB) combined with the small allowed memory (16MB ) in your PHP has caused the fatal error .. running the script itself seems to require less overhead memory than when embedded in your template.. don't know why
